Full Job Description
We are looking for a visionary Automation Engineer to own the end-to-end testing strategy and infrastructure for our global payment and checkout experiences. This isn't just about writing scripts; it’s about architecting an AI-first testing ecosystem that empowers developers to ship code with total confidence. You will not just manage a test suite; you will architect an autonomous, AI-driven quality platform. You will leverage 10+ years of engineering expertise to bridge complex backend microservices with global checkout experiences, building 'invisible' infrastructure that uses GenAI to predict failures before they happen. The Mission As the primary owner of the payment testing strategy, you will bridge the gap between complex backend payment logic and diverse frontend checkout experiences. You thrive on the satisfaction of building "invisible" infrastructure that allows engineers to move at lightning speed without breaking the member experience. Core Responsibilities • Strategic Ownership: Define and execute the E2E testing strategy for payment management and checkout flows, ensuring support for hundreds of global payment methods. • AI-First Engineering: Architect and build Generative AI-powered tools to automate scenario generation, intelligently detect regressions, and provide smart test guardrails. • Synthetic Data at Scale: Develop software solutions that generate high-quality, high-cardinality synthetic test data to simulate complex global payment permutations. • The "Healthy Contempt" for Flakiness: Design tools to automatically detect, quarantine, and reproduce flaky tests. Take responsibility for weekly deployment sign-offs. • Observability & Correlation: Integrate test coverage data with runtime traces and code changes to provide a 360-degree view of system health and reliability. • Full-Stack Verification: Identify gaps in the existing suite of integration, visual screenshot, API, mock, contract, and performance tests. Work with the team to prioritize and close gaps • Payment Integration: Facilitate seamless end-to-end testing and integration for all other engineering teams leveraging the payments platform. • Cultural Advocacy: Partner with cross-functional teams to foster a "reliability-first" culture, documenting frameworks and troubleshooting guides that elevate the entire engineering org. • Collaboration: Closely collaborate with engineers within the team and with partner teams to identify needs and influence the direction of testing infrastructure. Partner with product and engineering to define test strategies for new features. Technical Profile • Expert Automation Architect: You have a deep understanding of the Test Pyramid and know exactly when to use a unit test versus an integrated E2E flow. • Framework Fluency: Deep experience with modern web automation tools like Playwright or Selenium, alongside API and contract testing frameworks. • System Thinker: You don’t just test the UI; you understand how to correlate data across distributed backend systems and microservices. • The Tester Mindset: You are pathologically curious. You find the "edge cases of the edge cases" that others miss. • Languages and tools we use:Java, Javascript, Python, GraphQL, Github Actions, Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, Jest, Cucumber, Mocha. What Sets You Apart • Reliability First: You operate with a strong ownership mindset, treating the reliability of our payment systems as a "tier 0" priority. • Customer and Developer Experience (DX) Obsessed: You don't just build tests for yourself; you own the test strategy and build tools that make it easy for other developers to write and maintain high-quality tests. • Global Perspective: Experience navigating the nuances of global payments, including local regulations, diverse currencies, and regional checkout behaviors. • Ownership: Working within a highly talented team, you take full ownership and effectively drive success in your assigned areas. You will be responsible for setting the standards. Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $388,000.00 - $558,000.00. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more details about our Benefits here.
