Title: Software Engineer 4

Location: Remote (EST or CST). Occasional domestic and/or U.S. travel for in-person events and meetings.

As a Software Engineer 4, you'll help design, build, and scale the distributed platforms that power the patient experience. In this senior individual contributor role, you'll drive technical solutions from design through production, improve platform reliability and engineering quality, and mentor other engineers while helping shape engineering best practices across the organization.

You'll collaborate closely with architects, product managers, operations teams, QA engineers, and fellow software engineers to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available software that makes a meaningful impact on healthcare.

You'll also champion modern engineering practices, including the thoughtful use of AI-assisted development tools. Engineers are expected to leverage AI to improve productivity, accelerate delivery, increase test coverage, automate repetitive tasks, support troubleshooting, and enhance documentation while validating AI-generated outputs and promoting responsible adoption across the engineering organization.

What You’ll Spend Your Time Doing

  • Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of scalable, reliable software solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools (such as Claude Code) to improve engineering efficiency, software quality, and developer productivity.

  • Review, refine, and validate AI-assisted outputs to ensure alignment with architectural standards, compliance requirements, and security best practices.

  • Participate in technical design reviews, architectural discussions, and code reviews.

  • Drive technical decisions for complex initiatives from design through production deployment.

  • Mentor software engineers and QA engineers on engineering best practices, technical problem-solving, and modern development workflows.

  • Own production systems and drive operational excellence through monitoring, observability, automation, and continuous improvement.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues and critical customer escalations.

  • Contribute to CI/CD automation, platform reliability, and developer experience improvements.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Architecture, Operations, and Engineering leadership.

  • Drive engineering best practices related to quality, scalability, testing, documentation, maintainability, and security.

  • Support sprint planning, estimation, delivery coordination, and Agile execution.

What Makes You a Great Fit

You don’t need to check every box — but this role will feel energizing if you have:

  • Strong experience building software using Microsoft .NET/C#, Java, and cloud-native technologies.

  • Experience designing and implementing scalable APIs, distributed systems, and backend services.

  • Experience building and improving CI/CD pipelines and engineering automation.

  • Strong understanding of software quality, observability, scalability, resiliency, and operational excellence.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical leadership across teams.

  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development workflows and engineering outcomes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • A passion for continuous improvement and influencing engineering standards across the organization.
