About the team and the role:

eBay, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 2 in San Jose, CA

What you will accomplish:

Job Duties: Develop backend services and applications using modern IT technologies, including data modeling and system design patterns as foundational building blocks. Contribute to all phases of the Software Product Development Life Cycle under guidance, including solution design, development, testing, deployment, debugging, troubleshooting, monitoring and other post-production supports. Develop and deploy robust unit tests and streamline integration tests to ensure comprehensive test coverage and system reliability, contributing to product quality control. Assist in managing, maintaining, and improving the experimentation framework's capacity by integrating services with the company's experimentation platform. Enable more accurate data collection and analysis for A/B testing and feature evaluation to support data-driven decision-making. Support and enhance both product and user behavior tracking capabilities by contributing to existing ETL data pipelines using the current technology stack and available services. Ensure accurate data propagation to data warehouses or other organization-wide analytics platforms, enabling product teams to derive actionable insights and evaluate feature impact on user engagement. Help improve the efficiency and reliability of the CI/CD pipeline by optimizing automated test suites and reducing build times using Jenkins and shell scripting, resulting in faster and more consistent software delivery. Participate in the migration of legacy services to a new infrastructure framework by refactoring code, enhancing unit tests, validating system integrity post-migration, and coordinating successful deployments to production environments. Collaborate with team members in an Agile software development environment, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop, maintain, and improve existing systems while adhering to established processes and tools. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.

What you will bring:

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or a closely related field.

Special Skill Requirements:
  • Knowledge or experience of object-oriented programming languages (Java, Python) and related frameworks (Springboot)
  • Knowledge or experience of SQL and no SQL databases (MySQL, Oracle SQL, Redis), schema design, and data modeling
  • Knowledge or experience of data structures in designing and developing efficient software solutions
  • Knowledge or experience with software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum) and ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge or experience with DevOps practices and software version control system (Git, Jenkin, CI/CD)
  • Knowledge or experience with RESTful API design principles and backend service development
  • Knowledge or experience with distributed data streaming frxameworks (Kafka, Spark)
  • Knowledge or experience with system observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus) to monitor application performance and configure alerts for maintaining system reliability


Salary: $137,669.00-196,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Additional Details

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
