S3 Index team is looking for a passionate, experienced software development manager to build the next generation of S3 Indexing system. In this role, you will leverage your technical depth in large-scale distributed systems to solve complex problems with simple solutions for one of AWS's foundational services. You will be building systems capable of gracefully accommodating highly diverse access patterns and substantial throughput demands driven by our customers. Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations - from foundational services such as Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS's services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Key job responsibilities
* Lead and mentor a team of talented software engineers, creating structures that enable them to solve complex problems and deliver high-impact solutions while fostering their growth and professional development.
* Own team-wide architectural decisions and technical direction for a high-visibility S3-wide initiative, ensuring quality software aligned with Amazon's engineering best practices while making appropriate trade-offs between tactical needs and strategic goals.
* Create mechanisms and metrics that enable you to explain your team's performance and identify opportunities to improve customer experiences.
* Partner with engineering leaders across S3 to identify and address complex technical challenges, evaluating downstream impacts and architectural cohesiveness.
A day in the life
Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with your team of talented software engineers to solve problems to deliver innovations across this foundational AWS service. You'll balance technical deep dives with strategic planning sessions, working across organizational boundaries to drive alignment on your high-visibility initiative. You'll mentor team members to foster their growth while ensuring they have the support needed to deliver complex solutions that meet S3's rigorous standards for security, durability, availability, and performance.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
