The AWS Hardware Engineering team is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to spearhead firmware development for the next generation of data center hardware. In this role, you will orchestrate the efforts of talented engineers to deliver unique hardware solutions and scale those for AWS customers. As a key member of the Firmware team, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, guiding the development of embedded systems that power AWS's infrastructure.

Key job responsibilities
As the Firmware Team Manager, you will lead a talented group of firmware engineers, fostering their professional growth and cultivating a culture of innovation and excellence. Your key responsibilities will include defining and presenting the annual roadmap for delivering high-quality firmware solutions to organizational leadership, ensuring alignment with AWS's strategic goals. You'll collaborate closely with AWS hardware and software teams to integrate firmware into the broader ecosystem of AWS Data Center services. Your role will extend beyond development, as you'll also support the deployment and operation of the developed software in AWS data centers, ensuring smooth implementation and optimal performance.

Our designs are industry-leading in frugality and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and millions of customers who use AWS today. Our engineers solve challenging technology problems and build architecturally sound, high-quality components to enable AWS to realize critical business strategies.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience managing a team of high calibre Software Engineers developing complex, world class, scalable software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment
- Experience with the scrum methodology
- 5+ years of experience with embedded firmware/software development for server platforms
- Understanding of server platform design and architecture
- 5+ years of experience with BMC (baseboard management controller) development
- Experiences with systems management protocols or standards such as I2C, MCTP, PLDM, Redfish, USB, SPDM, and PCIe
- Experiences with accelerated server design with GPUs
- Experiences with operating complex systems at Cloud scale
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
