Full Job Description
The Aurora PostgreSQL engine team is looking for a n exceptional Software Development Manager to revolutionize distributed, cloud-native databases. Amazon Aurora is a cloud-native relational database that combines the scalability and performance of the best NoSQL databases with full compatibility to PostgreSQL. As one of the fastest-growing services at the core of AWS and one of our largest managed database offerings, your engineering decisions will have widespread impact across AWS, Amazon, and beyond.

As Software Development Manager for the Aurora PostgreSQL engine team, you will own a core part of the database engine charter, responsible for Aurora PostgreSQL availability and data plane upgrades- making them seamless and low-downtime for our customers. You will have great impact if you hold high standards for engineering, can deep dive complex problems, and demonstrate a bias to solve cross-organizational challenges. We are never done innovating on behalf of our customers, and we continue to believe it is Day 1 for the Aurora business.

You will work in a highly collaborative, diverse environment that attracts talent and provides ample opportunities to grow and learn. You'll have the freedom to shape how the team works and what mechanisms and processes to establish to achieve your goals and deliver results. In this role, you provide technical direction and guidance to your team, coaching junior and intermediate engineers into established contributors through interesting, aspirational projects, while collaborating with senior engineers on large, complex features with high customer value.

You will work directly with customers to gather feedback and understand their use cases. Together with Aurora leadership, this will help you shape a vision for the team and align the roadmap and deliveries with product management. You will lead the delivery of new features-both customer-facing and those improving operational and technical efficiency-drawing on your knowledge of industry trends and engineering tradeoffs. You will be a thoughtful steward of existing systems, challenging assumptions and driving change when necessary to scale for growth.

This is a hands-on position that requires strong ownership. If you are technically knowledgeable, a good collaborator and communicator, and can lead with empathy for both customers and engineers, then this role is for you. We don't need you to be a database expert-you'll have the chance to learn on the go, and we value curiosity and craftsmanship over specific technical knowledge. You'll benefit daily from interacting with many talented people across AWS who will help you expand your management and technical skills.

Aurora is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which delivers product innovations ranging from foundational services like Amazon S3 and EC2 to continuously released features that set AWS apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
