We are looking for a passionate engineer to work on the development of Tier-1 services for Alexa Cloud that power customer-facing experiences across domains - from audio and video to smart home, shopping, and beyond. You'll play a key role in integrating AI-driven capabilities into these experiences - from intelligent personalization and predictive interactions to AI-augmented development practices that accelerate how we build, test, and ship software.
Key job responsibilities
- Build low-latency, low-cost, highly reliable, and highly scalable connectivity services between Alexa-enabled devices and Alexa Cloud
- Design and integrate AI components into connectivity services, evaluating trade-offs across latency, cost, reliability, and accuracy
- Drive and lead software design, development standards, team processes, and code reviews
- Leverage AI-augmented development tools to accelerate design, coding, testing, and debugging workflows
- Deliver high-quality software through working in a dynamic, team-focused Agile/Scrum environment
- Contribute to the professional development of colleagues, improving their technical knowledge and engineering practices - including adoption of AI-first development practices
A day in the life
- Monitor and own the operational health of Tier-1 services processing tens of billions of transactions daily
- Design and build AI-powered, customer-facing features that span domains like smart home, audio, shopping, and more
- Collaborate with partner teams across Alexa - device engineers, ML scientists, and product managers - to deliver end-to-end experiences
- Use AI-augmented tools and practices to ship faster and raise the bar on engineering quality
- Mentor teammates and drive adoption of AI-first development across the team
About the team
The mission of the Alexa Connectivity team is to deliver low-latency, low-cost, highly reliable, and highly scalable connectivity between Alexa-enabled devices and Alexa Cloud. The changes we make improve the speed and reliability experienced by end customers when interacting with Alexa devices, and simplify the experience for developers and the rest of Alexa by abstracting connection management from them. The team handles tens of billions of transactions per day.
We are increasingly an AI-first team - embedding intelligence into our services and our development lifecycle. This is a highly visible role to get in at the inception phase, build new AI-enhanced features, and operate a Tier-1 Cloud Service. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
