We are the Expedia Group Advertising team - as a global leader in travel industry advertising, we connect advertisers with millions of travelers. We are seeking a talented and results-driven Software Development Engineer II, Advertising Technology. In this role, you will work with a team of dedicated engineers to develop and enhance our next-generation advertising suite of products. Your technical expertise and collaborative approach will help deliver impactful solutions for advertisers and travelers worldwide. As a Software Development Engineer II, you will play a critical role in building and scaling high-performance systems that support Expedia Group's expanding advertising network. Your focus will be on designing innovative solutions, driving operational excellence, and contributing to the success of a collaborative engineering team.
In this role, you will:
• Design, build, test, and maintain scalable software solutions for advertising technology products and services, applying strong coding fundamentals and sound engineering practices.
• Contribute to system design, low-level design, API design, and data modeling to deliver reliable, maintainable, and extensible solutions across multiple technical domains.
• Collaborate with engineers, product, and partner teams to translate business needs into technical solutions that improve advertising platform capabilities and customer outcomes.
• Own well-defined components and services, troubleshoot production issues, and improve operational health through monitoring, debugging, automation, and continuous improvement.
• Write high-quality, secure, and well-tested code, participate in code reviews, and follow engineering standards that support performance, scalability, and resilience.
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent related professional experience.
• 2+ years of software development experience building and supporting production systems and services.
• Experience owning components or services within a team, with responsibility for implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Proficiency in software engineering fundamentals including coding, data structures, algorithms, debugging, and version control, with working knowledge of system design, low-level design, API design, and data modeling. Preferred languages include Java, Kotlin, React
• Experience developing reliable, scalable applications and working across more than one technical area or service, with the ability to diagnose issues and deliver maintainable solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience building software for advertising technology, marketplace, or other high-scale distributed platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to improve service quality through observability, automation, performance tuning, and operational excellence practices.
• Experience contributing to architecture or design discussions for services, APIs, event streaming, and data models within a team-owned domain.
• Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows, and experience applying AI/ML concepts in production-oriented software environments.
• Experience using data and metrics to inform engineering decisions, prioritize improvements, and measure the impact of technical solutions.
Please note that this role is only available in Seattle, WA, in alignment with our flexible work model, which requires employees to be in-office at least three days a week. We are unable to offer relocation assistance for this role.
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $119,000.00 to $166,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $190,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
