Our team owns services that are critical to how Amazon operates in the cloud - they underpin account lifecycle operations, policy enforcement, and organizational governance for millions of AWS accounts. You'll build and operate services that are foundational to Amazon's security posture and cloud operations.
The Account Lifecycle and Federation at Amazon (ALFA) team is looking for a Software Development Engineer II who is passionate about building large-scale distributed systems that power AWS account management and governance. You will work on the Merlon Accounts and Trusted Services team, which maintains the control plane for AWS account management - the backbone infrastructure that enables teams across Amazon and AWS to create, manage, and govern their AWS accounts at scale.
You'll be expected to develop robust, highly available distributed systems, drive technical decisions, and deliver solutions that operate at Amazon scale. You'll work across the full software development lifecycle - from design through deployment and operations - and collaborate with partner teams across security, infrastructure, and AWS services.

• Own, design, and deliver software solutions that power AWS account lifecycle management.
• Build and operate large-scale distributed systems with high availability and low latency requirements.
• Drive technical decisions and contribute to the architecture of the account management control plane.
• Execute against project plans and delivery commitments with a bias for action.
• Develop relationships with internal partner teams across security, infrastructure, and AWS to deliver integrated solutions.
• Contribute to operational excellence by improving monitoring, alarming, and runbooks for production systems.
• Participate in on-call rotations and drive root cause analysis for operational events.
• Mentor junior engineers and help raise the technical bar across the team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
