Job SummaryOptimum is a leading provider of Mobile, Broadband (DOCSIS, Fiber) and Video services in the United States. The Product Development organization is responsible for the technology enablement and development of these technologies for our customers along with the tools used by our teams to support them.
Join the team building Optimum's internal omni-channel API platform. You will contribute primarily to API and backend service development under senior engineer guidance, with opportunities to support user-facing capabilities through coordination with presentation-layer engineering teams.
Responsibilities- Contribute to API and service development using Go and gRPC, working within established platform patterns and team standards
- Support implementation and evolution of service endpoints, Protocol Buffer contracts, and related client integrations
- Help extend and maintain API capabilities that connect platform services to internal and external consumers
- Participate in investigation and resolution of issues across API, service, and integration boundaries
- Write and maintain automated tests using Go test frameworks, with focus on validating API behavior and integration outcomes
- Collaborate with senior engineers on feature delivery, code review, and iterative improvement within GitLab CI-supported workflows
- Support user-facing feature delivery where needed, working through well-defined API contracts and cross-team coordination
- Participate in agile delivery practices, including Jira-driven and acceptance-criteria-based development
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 0-2 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent academic and project experience
- Foundational skills in Go or another modern backend language, with willingness to develop proficiency in our backend stack
- Basic understanding of REST or RPC-style APIs, service-oriented design, and HTTP-based communication
- Familiarity with Git, collaborative development workflows, and working within CI-supported delivery pipelines
- Willingness to learn platform technologies, domain concepts, and team engineering practices
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in a team-oriented environment
Preferred
- Familiarity with Protocol Buffers, gRPC, or contract-first API development concepts
- Experience with unit or integration testing in backend service environments
- Interest in cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, and private clouds) and cloud-native service development
- Willingness to collaborate with presentation-layer teams on API contract alignment
Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in New York is $83,538.00 - $137,241.00 / year. For other locations, please inquire with your recruiter.
