Job Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain system architectures that satisfy stakeholder needs and align with technical roadmaps and business objectives.
  • Lead the architectural design of complex systems, including hardware, software, and interfaces, ensuring coherence, scalability, and performance.
  • Translate high-level mission and system requirements into detailed architectural specifications, design documents, and implementation guidance.
  • Evaluate alternative architectural approaches, technologies, and design solutions to address technical challenges, performance requirements, reliability, safety, and mission needs.
  • Provide technical leadership for system architecture activities, including architectural analysis, design reviews, interface management, and technology assessments.
  • Develop and maintain system architectural documentation, including architectural views, design rationales, interface specifications, integration plans, and architecture decision records.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers, Software Architects, Hardware Engineers, Product Owners, and other technical stakeholders to resolve system-level technical issues, risks, dependencies, and design conflicts.
  • Support system integration and verification activities, including development of integration strategies, interface test plans, system-level test scenarios, and coordination of hardware/software integration efforts.
  • Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of systems engineering and architecture practices, including model-based systems engineering (MBSE), architecture frameworks (such as DoDAF or FEAF), and configuration management.
  • Ensure system architectures meet applicable quality, cybersecurity, safety, performance, reliability, maintainability, and customer requirements, including adherence to relevant standards (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010, DoD architecture standards).
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers and contribute to the development of systems engineering processes, architecture standards, and best practices.
  • Hold technical accountability for the quality, integrity, and successful execution of system architectural deliverables within the assigned area of responsibility.

Job Requirements
  • Strong, hands-on experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system architecture and design, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Demonstrated experience developing system architectures for complex, mission-critical, embedded, or distributed systems.
  • Experience with system architecture and design principles, including modularity, layered architecture, service-oriented architecture, and hardware/software partitioning.
  • Solid understanding of systems engineering methodologies and architecture frameworks, including DoDAF, FEAF, TOGAF, or similar.
  • Experience with system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., SysML, UML, MagicDraw, Enterprise Architect, or similar).
  • Experience with system development tools and environments, including requirements management, issue tracking, and configuration management systems.
  • Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) and/or DevSecOps development environments at the system level.
  • Experience developing and maintaining system technical documentation and engineering artifacts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues and work collaboratively with systems, hardware, software, test, cybersecurity, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Minimum of Ten (10) years of relevant systems engineering or system architecture experience on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Four (4) years of additional relevant systems engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

Desired Competencies
  • Experience developing safety-critical, mission-critical, or high-reliability system architectures, including familiarity with applicable standards such as MIL-STD-882, DO-254, or related development and verification standards.
  • Experience developing system architectures for DoD, aerospace, defense, or other complex system-of-systems environments.
  • Familiarity with DoD system cybersecurity requirements, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) and system-level security architecture principles.
  • Experience with system architecture and collaboration tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, IBM Rational Rhapsody, Visual Paradigm, or similar tools.
  • Experience with embedded systems, real-time systems, distributed systems, or hardware/software integration at the architectural level.
  • Experience with system performance analysis, reliability modeling, safety analysis, and architectural trade studies.
  • Prior experience supporting strategic missile, weapons, aerospace, or other mission-critical systems at the architectural level.
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture, or a related technical discipline.

Clearance Requirements
  • Active DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level or above.
