As part of a 12-person Marketing team within a much larger Communications department, the Social Media Associate supports awareness, advocacy, and engagement efforts through social listening, audience engagement, insights, and content development. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in issue advocacy and a well-rounded background in social media, digital communications, and content strategy.
This is a non-supervisory position.
The Social Media Associate is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule and may work hybrid from the following locations: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, or Washington, DC.
WHAT YOU'LL DOAudience Engagement & Social Listening (35%) - Monitor Earthjustice social platforms daily and engage with audiences through comments and conversations
- Conduct social listening to track sentiment and emerging narratives in the news cycle, identifying rapid response opportunities for engagement and thought leadership
- Share insights from social listening to inform content, campaigns, and engagement strategies
Content & Copywriting (35%) - Draft social media copy in collaboration with social team for use across platforms
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and social media team to conceptualize and plan content for Earthjustice campaigns
- Ensure all content is accurate, on-brand, and tailored to target audiences
Planning & Reporting (20%) - Support reporting & analytics by pulling regular reports on social media metrics and campaign performance
- Share ongoing insights and recommendations to improve KPIs and content performance
- Maintain social content calendars; Coordinate content reviews and publishing workflows
Other (10%) - Stay informed on platform updates and evolving social media best practices
- Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed
- Actively pursue professional development and contribute to a culture of learning by building skills and sharing knowledge.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING- 2-3 years of experience in social media, digital communications, or a related field
- Exceptional written communication and copywriting skills
- Experience in nonprofit, legal, or issue advocacy
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project timelines
- Strong understanding of social platforms and community management best practices
- Proficiency with social media management, listening, and reporting platforms such as Brandwatch, Sprout Social, and/or Hootsuite
- Basic design or video editing experience using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite

Salaries at Earthjustice are determined by working location and are commensurate with the experience required.
The annual salary range for this role in San Francisco and New York, NY is
$80,300 - $89,200.
The annual salary range for this role in Los Angeles, CA, Chicago, IL, and Washington, DC is $76,300 - $84,800.
