A Brief Overview
The Site Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive safety program to protect employees, contractors, and visitors within our MiTek facilities. This role will ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, reduce workplace accidents and injuries, and foster a strong safety culture.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Inspects manufacturing facilities to identify safety risks.
  • Provides management team with guidance and leadership on EHS regulatory compliance and confirms plant meets or exceeds industry, local, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations.
  • Prepares, schedules and conducts safety trainings, new hire safety orientations.
  • Attend and assist plant supervisors with safety meetings.
  • Supervises and coordinates all safety training programs, and media that will promote safety awareness, teach safety practices and develops tools for tracking required training.
  • Motivate, coach, and mentor Managers, supervisors, leads, and employees.
  • Provides management team with guidance and leadership on EH&S systems and confirms plant meets or exceeds industry, local, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations.
  • Reviews and investigates all safety incidents (injuries, near misses, property damage, etc.)
  • Works with front line supervisors to develop corrective actions arising from incident investigations.
  • Works with Human Resources representative on all matters relating to Worker’s Compensation, Drug and Alcohol testing program, and disciplinary actions relating to safety violations.
  • Spends a significant amount of time (70% -80%) on the manufacturing floor evaluating hazardous conditions and practices.
  • Audit in pro-active stance to include training, retraining and new hire files, documentation of records and standardization.
  • Ensures deficiencies arising from facility inspection are completed in a timely manner.
  • Works closely with engineering department to develop hazard control practices and procedures.
  • Works with 3rd party environmental consultants to ensure plant compliance (air, water, and waste permitting).
  • Manages online inspection platform (Safety Culture/iAuditor) for assigned facilities.
  • Oversees chemical management program (SDSs)
  • Maintains all safety and training records.
  • Works with 3rd party safety vendors.
  • Manages hearing conservation program, air monitoring, respiratory protection program, and any other Industrial Hygiene needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related topic preferred. (Specific experience may be substituted).
  • OHST, ASP, SMS Safety certifications, preferred but not required.
  • Track record of leading EHS audit programs, awareness, and engagement programs.
  • Extensive experience developing and conducting trainings for all levels of personnel.
  • Five plus years practical experience in a manufacturing/fabrication environment REQUIRED.
  • REQUIRED experience writing policies and standard operating procedures.
  • REQUIRED experience of different manufacturing and fabrication trades such as welding, machining, assembly, painting, warehousing.
  • REQUIRED experience of manufacturing and fabrication equipment such as overhead cranes, rigging equipment, powered industrial trucks, lathes, CNCs.
  • Experience with industrial lasers and robotics a plus.
  • Experience using Safety management software preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and Industrial Hygiene regs and Best Practices.
  • Required knowledge of Electrical Safety, and Lockout/Tagout Procedures, knowledge of Brady Link360 software a plus.
  • Basic business acumen and the ability to partner and communicate effectively with business counterparts.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles (5S)

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, climbing to safely conduct risk assessments.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time.
