Site Controller Lab Operations

The Opportunity

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together world‑class expertise and industry‑leading technologies to support diagnostic testing that delivers critical information for the treatment and management of diseases and other medical conditions.

The Site Controller – Laboratory Operations serves as the primary finance business partner for Abbott's Toxicology laboratory operations in Gretna, Louisiana. This role provides financial leadership and strategic support across the laboratory organization, partnering closely with site leadership to drive business performance, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.

The Site Controller is responsible for financial planning and analysis, cost accounting, forecasting, operational analytics, capital investment evaluation, and business decision support. The individual in this position will deliver timely and actionable financial insights that enable data-driven decision-making while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and financial targets.

Working collaboratively with laboratory and site leadership teams, the Site Controller supports budgeting and forecasting processes, cost accounting governance, gross margin improvement initiatives, and capital investment planning. This role plays a critical part in identifying operational and financial opportunities, evaluating business risks, and developing strategies that enhance profitability and operational effectiveness.

The Site Controller will also ensure compliance with Abbott financial policies, accounting standards, internal controls, and applicable regulatory requirements. Through effective financial stewardship, process improvement initiatives, analytics, and automation, this position helps strengthen financial discipline, improve operational performance, and support the long-term success of the Toxicology business.

What You’ll Work On

  • Serves as the primary finance business partner to laboratory Operations, providing leadership in cost accounting, service-line costing, financial planning, operational analysis, cost control, and profitability improvement while supporting execution of strategic and operational objectives
  • In partnership with the Site Director, Operations, and Finance leadership, helps shape financial direction by ensuring accurate financial results and forecasts and alignment of operational decisions with cost, margin, and profitability objectives
  • Coordinates, consolidates, and manages development of the laboratory's annual plan, forecasts, and capital budgets in partnership with department leaders
  • Leads laboratory cost accounting processes, including development and maintenance of a comprehensive panel costing model; performs annual cost studies, validates cost assumptions, ensures accurate panel costing, and maintains methodologies supporting service-line profitability, gross margin performance, and resource allocation decisions
  • Analyzes cost drivers, labor productivity, testing volumes, utilization trends, and operational performance metrics to identify opportunities for cost optimization and margin improvement
  • Monitors, analyzes, and communicates financial and operational performance against plans, forecasts, and benchmarks, providing actionable insights to stakeholders across the organization
  • Partners with laboratory leadership to establish performance metrics, evaluate operational initiatives, and drive accountability for achieving productivity, cost, and profitability objectives
  • Evaluates capital projects, operational initiatives, and business investments, providing financial analysis and recommendations to support sound decision-making
  • Drives continuous improvement in planning, forecasting, reporting, and cost accounting processes through analytics, automation, and emerging technologies
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, and Corporate and divisional policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5 years of finance or accounting experience supporting laboratory, manufacturing, operational, or other cost-intensive environments
  • Demonstrated experience with standard costing, cost allocation methodologies, variance analysis, service-line costing, and cost performance measurement
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with operations or laboratory teams to support business performance and decision-making
  • Willingness to travel periodically, as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant accounting certification preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of cost accounting systems, costing methodologies, variance analysis, profitability modeling, and cost optimization techniques, with experience partnering with operations teams to improve efficiency and profitability
  • Proven ability to analyze complex datasets and leverage advanced analytics, automation, and emerging technologies to deliver actionable business insights and improve reporting efficiency
  • Experience working cross-functionally with manufacturing, laboratory or operations leadership in a regulated environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and PowerPoint

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with ERP systems, financial planning tools, cost accounting solutions, and business intelligence platforms such as Power BI
