Full Job Description
We are seeking a Site Civil Engineer / Project Manager to join our Oakland (preferred) or Walnut Creek, CA office. The successful candidate will join a team of engineers working on projects at Port of Oakland and other California Ports on large, complex, and exciting multidisciplinary projects. This position will lead and manage the planning, design, and construction to support complex projects at port/cargo terminals, municipal sites, and private commercial/industrial developments. The ideal candidate has strong project management skills and will be given opportunities as a client-facing team member. Strong attention to detail and communication skills are required for this position.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages projects by preparing engineering design, documents, and specifications
  • Prepares engineering design for storm drainage, water distribution, grading, sanitary sewer, site paving, and erosion and sediment control.
  • Performs drainage studies using stormwater modeling software.
  • Determines project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costs
  • Prepares written deliverables including reports and memorandums
  • Creates feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, reviewing environmental studies, and assembling data
  • Confirms adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspecting construction site, and verifying calculations and placements
  • Prepares and submits permit application packages to federal, state, and local permitting agencies.
  • Manages subconsultants in the development of engineering evaluations and designs
  • Interfaces with clients by providing engineering information, recommendations, project updates, and answering questions and requests
  • Oversees project personnel
  • Mentors and assists junior engineers in developing final design plans

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university degree program
  • Professional Engineer licensure in California or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire
  • 4 to 10 years of experience in site civil engineering; port experience preferred
  • Competence in civil site engineering design is required including storm drainage, water distribution, grading, sanitary sewer, site paving, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater modeling
  • Some project management experience is required
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to plan, schedule work and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.

Base salary range:

$106,000 to $144,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California market.
