Full Job Description
Position Summary: The New York City Public Schools (NYCPS)'s Office of Food and Nutrition Services (OFNS) is dedicated to providing NYC's students with access to healthy food choices with the highest nutritional standards. OFNS has a critical impact on the overall education of students as we serve meals daily throughout the 5 boroughs of New York City. With over 8,000 employees and an approximately $600 million budget, the organization has a significant influence on the national school food industry and the eating habits of future generations.

In addition to daily operations, OFNS is working on several initiatives that will add overall value to work performed and support high level Chancellor and Mayoral initiatives.

The Shipping and Logistics Manager, OFNS will be responsible for coordinating the end to end flow of products that move from the suppliers to our schools and work in consult with the Director of Warehouse and Distribution to effectuate a positive, results oriented experience to our customers. The Manager will plan, coordinate and monitor the transportation and delivery of goods including ensuring compliance with local, city, state and federal regulations. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Relationships will be forged with all levels of staff and management within NYCPS, OFNS, distributors and management.

Responsibilities
  • Manages shipping schedules, warehouse operations and transportation to ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Works in conjunction with the Director with storing, preparing and loading of products and ensures resources are available to handle fluctuations in demand.
  • Spearheads inventory control, managing both physical and perpetual inventory within the warehouse, ensuring that products are securely accounted for and reconciled.
  • Manages inventory systems for optimized control procedures, documenting daily shipments and deliveries to schools.
  • Organizes logistics, deliveries, and the distribution of incoming and outgoing supplies, e.g., paper, cleaning materials, and miscellaneous provisions, for our food service sites.
  • Verifies routes and conducts random audit of routes picked for accuracy.
  • Manages a cohesive work environment to maintain supplies to over 1,200 school kitchens.
  • Acts as a liaison for on call emergencies or problems that may arise with fleet or supplies.
  • Dispatches staff and truck itineraries for school routes weekly.
  • Coordinates and oversees the sanitation of central warehouse; manages schedules to ensure proper rotation of stock and control of materials.
  • Inspects physical condition of central warehouse and equipment.
  • Ensures the security of stock as well as maintenance of par levels for proper replenishment of supplies.
  • Manages receipt of goods, ensuring compliance with standard guidelines.
  • Inspects vehicles of operation daily, including forklifts and electrical pallet jacks, to ensure safety among employees in the warehouse.
  • Responsible for training and scheduling of warehouse staff to meet business demand within budgetary guidelines.
  • Establishes policy regarding the application of strategic sourcing techniques and best practice in the timely acquisition of supply replenishments.
  • Maintains and manages monthly reporting, ensuring accuracy of reporting to all stakeholders.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum

  • Six years of full-time progressively responsible experience in warehousing operations at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial or administrative capacity requiring independent decision-making concerning management or planning, allocation of resources and the scheduling and assignment of work; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Education may be substituted for the general administrative experience (but not for the 18 months of managerial experience described above) at the rate of 1 year of college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 4 years of college for 2 years of experience.

    Salary : $95,900 - $105,490

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
