Description Starting Salary from: $150,000/annum The Opportunity: Working within the Burnaby Refinery's operating division, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all refinery operations during their assigned shift. This role involves ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the refinery, managing a team of operators, and responding to any operational issues or emergencies that arise. The Shift Supervisor is also accountable for maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, as well as providing clear communication and reporting to senior management. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Refinery Operations.
Responsibilities: - Operational Oversight: Manage and oversee all refinery operations during the assigned shift, ensuring continuous, efficient, and safe plant performance.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to all safety protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements, identifying and addressing potential safety hazards. Perform routine assessments on field work to identify successes and opportunities for improvement.
- Team Leadership: Lead by example; foster a culture of teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement; guide and mentor the operations team; provide clear instruction and feedback.
- Emergency Response: Lead the response to any operational issues or emergencies, coordinating with relevant teams to resolve incidents quickly and safely.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with other departments, including Area 1 Operations, maintenance, engineering, and senior management, to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor plant performance, identify inefficiencies or issues, and provide detailed shift reports and updates to management.
- Regulatory Compliance : Ensure all operations comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations, and maintain accurate records for audits and inspections.
- Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance refinery performance and safety.
- Training: Collaborate with the Training Manager to develop crew training plans that align with the overall Operations training strategy.
- Shift Handover : Conduct thorough shift handovers, ensuring that the incoming supervisor is fully briefed on ongoing operations, issues, and priorities.
- Optimization: Implements t he w e e k l y o p e r ati n g p l an f or p l a n t t h r o u g h p u t , y i e l d, and p r o d u ct q u ali t y sp e c i f i cati o ns.
- Collective Agreement: Manages adherence to the collective agreement, addresses grievances, oversees progressive discipline, develops labor schedules, and approves payroll entries.
Requirements: - Valid 3 rd Class Power Engineering Certificate or a Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
- A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in refinery operations or a similar industrial setting.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a refinery or chemical processing environment.
- Experience working within the framework of collective bargaining agreements.
- Strong decision-making abilities, particularly under pressure or in emergency situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear reporting and coordination with different departments.
