37.5 hrs/week; shifts between 0500-2000, including rotating weekends & stat holidays. Shifts subject to change based on organizational needs.

Position Summary

The Shift Supervisor, Food Services provides day-to-day operational leadership and oversight of patient meal services to support the safe, accurate and timely delivery of meals in accordance with prescribed therapeutic diets, food safety requirements and clinical needs.
The Shift Supervisor provides daily leadership and direction to Food Services staff, coordinates workflow and staffing requirements, supports quality and safety standards, and works collaboratively with clinical and support departments to ensure effective patient meal service.
The Shift Supervisor is also responsible for maintaining working knowledge of Computrition and related food service systems to support daily operations and provide operational backup as required.

Required
• Diploma or certificate in Food and Nutrition Management, Hospitality, or related field.

Duties

Daily Operations & Patient Meal Services
• Provides day-to-day leadership and oversight of Food Services operations during assigned shifts.
• Coordinates workflow and staff assignments to support efficient and timely meal preparation and delivery.
• Ensure patient meals are prepared and delivered accurately and in accordance with therapeutic diet orders and clinical requirements.
• Monitors meal quality, tray accuracy, food safety and adherence to infection prevention and control practices.
• Responds to day-to-day operational issues and work collaboratively with staff and other departments to resolve service concerns.
• Maintains effective communication with clinical teams regarding diet changes, patient needs, and meal service requirements.
• Conducts routine audits and supports corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, patient satisfaction and reduce waste.

Staff Leadership
• Provides daily leadership, direction, coaching and support to Food Services staff.
• Supports staff orientation, training and ongoing education related to food safety, therapeutic diets, equipment, systems and departmental procedures.
• Supports scheduling, staffing coverage, and workflow coordination to meet operational requirements.
• Participates in staff selection and recruitment and provided input for staff performance appraisals.
• Resolves routine staff issues, referring concerns of greater complexity to the Food Services Manager.
• Promotes a collaborative, respectful, and patient-focused work environment.

Quality, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with applicable food safety legislation, accreditation requirements, hospital policies, and departmental procedures.
• Ensures adherence to infection prevention and control practices and safe food handling requirements.
• Supports departmental quality improvement initiatives and assists in identifying opportunities to improve service, workflow, and patient experience.
• Maintains required documentation to support inspections, audits, and quality assurance activities.
• Promotes and supports a safe work environment and compliance with applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
• Provides input into the development and/or revision of departmental policies, procedures and work processes and supports implementation of approved changes.

Computrition & Food Service Systems
• Utilizes Computrition and other food service systems to support patient meal service, menu management and diet office functions.
• Maintains sufficient knowledge of Computrition processes to support day-to-day operations, troubleshoot routine issues and provide operational backup as required.
• Supports staff in the appropriate use of food service systems and processes.
• Identifies and escalates system issues requiring additional technical or system-level support.

Supplies, Inventory & Resources
• Monitors food, supply and equipment requirements to support patient and departmental needs.
• Coordinates or supports ordering and inventory processes in accordance with departmental procedures.
• Promotes appropriate resource utilization and supports initiatives to reduce waste.

Other
• Participates in departmental meetings, education, and quality improvement activities as required.
• Maintains required certifications and ongoing education relevant to the position.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.

Preferred
• Membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM).
• Previous experience working in an acute care hospital environment.
• Previous experience with Computrition or a comparable food service software system.
