Job DescriptionSavannah River National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Hot Cells Manager to provide leadership and operational oversight for SRNL's Shielded Cells Operations. The successful candidate will ensure safe, compliant, and mission-focused execution of radiological operations, remote handling activities, equipment maintenance, and facility readiness. This position plays a critical role in supporting SRNL programmatic work by maintaining high-reliability hot cell capabilities.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day operations of SRNL hot cell facilities, ensuring all work is planned, authorized, and executed in accordance with DOE requirements and SRNL Conduct of Operations.
- Provide technical and operational direction to hot cell operators, technicians, and support staff, ensuring personnel qualifications and proficiency are maintained.
- Ensure compliance with DOE Orders, Radiological Protection requirements, Work Planning & Control processes, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and internal procedures.
- Oversee maintenance programs for manipulators, shield windows, cranes, remote handling tools, ventilation systems, contamination control devices, and monitoring instrumentation.
- Coordinate with Radiation Protection, Nuclear Safety, Engineering, Maintenance, and Mission Programs to ensure integrated execution of work and sustained facility readiness.
- Develop, maintain, and implement facility procedures, hazard analyses, ALARA strategies, and operator training requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for operational assessments, audits, readiness reviews, and external evaluations.
- Monitor facility performance metrics, operational health indicators, and long-term capability needs.
- Support SRNL mission programs by ensuring hot cell availability, schedule alignment, and safe conduct of research and technical work.
- Drive a strong safety culture and continuous improvement mindset across all hot cell operations.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical sciences, or a related technical discipline and 10 years of relevant experience.
- Relevant years of experience will be reviewed in lieu of Bachelor's degree if applicable.
- Significant experience in nuclear facility operations, radiological environments, or hot cell systems.
- Working knowledge of DOE Orders, nuclear safety requirements, radiological controls, Conduct of Operations, and Work Planning & Control.
- Demonstrated leadership ability in managing technical staff or complex operational facilities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven ability to balance mission execution, regulatory compliance, and safety expectations.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications:- Advanced degree preferred
- Experience managing hot cell or remote-handling systems in a DOE or nuclear industry environment.
- Knowledge of SRNL processes, institutional programs, and operational expectations.
- Experience in readiness activities, assessments, or nuclear facility oversight.
