Full Job Description
Position Summary
Serves as a member of the ECU Health (ECU Health) Management team. Primary responsibilities are for the oversight and management of the operations of the Health Information Services division of ECU Health.
Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Responsible for effectively managing, coaching and evaluating the proficiency and productivity of HIMS Operations. Manage individual performance against job descriptions and performance metrics by establishing and monitoring work assignments. Foster climate of teamwork and collaboration. Encourage professional and personal development. Promote and foster shared governance. Display strong leadership ability, inspiring and motivating team members to achieve excellence.
  • Monitor retention and exit interview findings.
  • Support a culture of reward, retention and promotion from within and support programs of staff recruitment and development to sustain ongoing need for quality workforce.
  • Leads an interdisciplinary workforce to provide competent, efficient, and compassionate care and services. Aid in professional development counseling to promote retention and overall employee satisfaction.

Other Key Duties
  • Establish policies and guidelines for HIMS to ensure health information is secure and meets quality standards.
  • Must have exceptional organization skills and the ability to manage multiple high priority projects, lead a diverse group of individuals, and communicate effectively at various levels within the organization.

HIMS Operations
  • Responsible for the management and coordination of HIMS Operations activities within ECU Health, ensuring complete, accurate and timely medical record documentation that adheres to regulatory and legal guidelines and supports revenue cycle, quality, and other stakeholders. Manages growth, development and operational activities related to HIMS Operations. Implements specific goals, objectives, budgets and performance standards for the HIMS Operations division.
  • Assures practices are standardized and consistent across facilities.
  • Builds collaborative working relationships with hospital leadership and physicians to address issues related to compliant documentation and timely completion of medical records. Serves as primary point of contact for HIMS Operations for designated leadership at ECU Health hospitals. Maintains consistent communication with various hospital leaders to meet needs as they arise.
  • Actively manages and monitors HIMS Operations process, performance and quality.
  • Manages and reports facility and department specific key performance indicators.
  • Monitors performance and analyzes trends determining root cause and addressing as appropriate. Leads individuals and groups towards identified outcomes, setting high performance standards and delivering quality services.
  • Manages staff in HIMS Operations ensuring departments have adequate coverage in all functional areas and workflow is maintained.
  • Participates in communication with the IT department to ensure appropriate systems, enhancements, and tools are utilized to effectively manage day to day operations.
  • Monitors systems to ensure optimal performance. Recommend upgrades or changes to current system. Ensures appropriate systems are updated as appropriate.
  • Participates in various IT related steering committees for initiatives which affect HIMS Operations workflows.
  • Works with external vendors and monitors compliance with contracted service level agreements.
  • Proactively manages issues, barriers and successes. Identifies and implements process improvements to decrease costs and improve service for applicable stakeholders.
  • Serves as HIMS Operations representative on designated committees.
  • Works with other HIMS leaders to develop and update policies.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree- or higher- in Health Information Management or related field required.
  • Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required.
  • Three additional years of leadership or HIMS operations experience with either a two year Associate Degree in HIT or successful completion of the AHIMA correspondence course/independent study program in HIT can substitute for the four year degree.
  • Three to five years leadership experience, including 1-3 years related HIMS experience.
Pay Range
$75,857.60 - $110,567.60/year
Other Information
  • Onsite role (based out of Greenville, NC)
  • Monday - Friday day shift:
    • Oversees 1st and 2nd shift. Primarily day shift hours - may need to stay into 2nd shift occasionally.
