Position Description & Qualifications

The Ship's Control Systems (SCS) and Hovering and Missile Compensation Systems (HMCCS) System Integration Team (SIT) Support will be on a dynamic team, supporting Team Submarine COLUMBIA Program Office. Team Submarine's Submarine COLUMBIA Class Program Office is responsible for:

The construction of COLUMBIA Class submarines, financial and budget management, shipyard support of submarines, vendor support of submarines, logistical support, quality assurance (SUBSAFE), and post-delivery submarine certifications and test programs.

The Team Submarine concept unifies once diverse submarine-related activities into a single submarine-centric organization with the goal of eliminating traditional stovepipe structures and processes that created impediments and inefficiencies in the submarine research, development, acquisition, and maintenance communities. Team Submarine provides improved communication among the various offices that contribute to the overall success of the United States Submarine Force.

Must be able to obtain/maintain a U.S. (DoW) Secret security clearance.

In this role, you will:
  • Report to the SCS SIT Lead and the Forward Project Officer.
  • Support the SCS SIT Lead and Deputy SIT Lead in their responsible for the design and integration of SCS and the Hovering and Missile Compensation Control System (HMCCS) in accordance with the Ship Building Specifications, assuring Fly-By-Wire (FBW) requirements are met for both COLUMBIA and UK DREADNOUGHT Class.
  • Support the SCS SIT Lead and Deputy SIT Lead in execution of the full System Engineering process for the COLUMBIA Class SCS Whole Boat and COLUMBIA/DREADNOUGHT HMCCS to include requirements development, system design, testing and requirements verification.
  • Support, and in some cases, leads the SCS and HMCCS System Integration Team meetings.
  • Facilitate timely decisions in the review and adjudication of all design products and written correspondence by engaging the appropriate NAVSEA technical stakeholders, Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), UK MoD and Naval Warfare Centers, to meet commitment completion dates.
  • Support the SCS SIT Lead and Deputy SIT Lead in managing the integration, testing, and delivery of the COLUMBIA and DREADNOUGHT Class, and associate ship control technical milestones, ensuring project success by adapting plans to meet evolving technical, financial, and programmatic needs.
  • Identify and manage risks and develop mitigation plans for projects and tasks on significant problems under their cognizance.
  • Collaborates with other SITs to ensure interfaces are identified and integration resolved.
  • Supports the SCS SIT Lead, Deputy SIT Lead, Forward Project Officer/Deputy and PMS397 Leadership to resolve emergent issues in the SCS and HMCCS areas.
  • Identifies and develops an engineering support staff and associated budget consisting of engineers from the Naval Warfare Centers and contractors as required through Task Planning Sheets (TPS).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering.

Additional desired experience and skills:
  • Knowledge of US Navy submarine systems, and software Systems Engineering.
  • Experience in Project Management of large, diverse Integrated Product Teams.
  • Good written and oral communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Professional knowledge of the Requirements Manual for Submarine Fly-By-Wire Ship Control Systems, NAVSEA T9044-AD-MAN-010 and the SUBSAFE Requirements Manual, NAVSEA 0924-LP-[redacted].
  • Working knowledge of DoD Standard Practice, System Safety, MIL-STD-882.
