Shared Financial Services & Tax Manager.The Shared Financial Services & Tax Manager provides strategic leadership across accounting operations, tax compliance, financial reporting, fixed assets, treasury-related support, and finance transformation initiatives for the Company, its subsidiaries, and participating member organizations. The role partners closely with Finance Leadership, members, Operations, IT, and external advisors to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and continuous process improvement.
Responsibilities:Shared Financial Services & Accounting Operations - Lead accounting and financial operations supporting member business units, subsidiaries, and Company functions.
- Oversee timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities while ensuring compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
- Support the onboarding of new members and integration of financial processes, systems, and reporting requirements.
- Establish service level expectations, performance metrics, and operational standards to drive accountability and service excellence.
- Drive standardization, automation, and continuous improvement across shared financial processes.
- Partner with Finance Leadership, Operations, IT, and member stakeholders to resolve issues, improve processes, and enhance financial service delivery.
- Present financial information, performance insights, and recommendations to senior executives and member stakeholders.
Tax & Compliance - Oversee sales and use tax, property tax, and litter tax compliance activities for participating members.
- Coordinate tax audits, inquiries, remediation activities, and related communications with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
- Oversee corporate tax provision activities under ASC 740, including related tax accounting and reporting requirements, as well as Section 263A and 1099 information reporting for Wakefern Food Corp.
- Review tax deliverables prepared by third-party accountants for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and alignment with company objectives.
- Serve as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and tax advisors to ensure timely resolution of tax matters, audit inquiries, and technical accounting issues.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and regulatory requirements and assess potential business impacts.
Leadership, Transformation & Process Improvement - Lead, mentor, and develop accounting, tax, and finance professionals, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Drive finance transformation initiatives that improve efficiency, standardization, controls, reporting, and scalability.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate processes and leverage technology to improve service delivery and financial operations.
- Support financial systems, reporting, and process enhancements, including Oracle Financials, SAP, and Cognos.
- Establish and monitor performance metrics to evaluate service quality, operational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Partnership - Build strong relationships with Finance Leadership, member organizations, Operations, IT, and external advisors.
- Provide financial and tax expertise to support business initiatives, member needs, and organizational decision-making.
- Participate in strategic initiatives, system implementations, process integrations, and other special projects.
- Perform financial analysis and provide recommendations to support senior leadership and member stakeholders.
- Ensure a high level of responsiveness, service, and professionalism in supporting internal and external customers.
Qualifications & Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Shared Services, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of five years of leadership experience managing and developing professional staff, including accountants, analysts, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of accounting, tax compliance, financial reporting, and internal control principles.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and a continuous stream of deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Superior analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across functions and organizational levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer-service orientation.
- Experience with Oracle Financials, SAP, and/or Cognos preferred.
Compensation: $155,000 - $165,000
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
