Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a ServiceNow Architect to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Business Process and Information Management Branch (BPIMB) ServiceNow Support Services (SNSS) program.

In this role, you will serve as the senior technical architect responsible for designing, governing, and overseeing NIAID's enterprise ServiceNow platform architecture across ITSM, ITOM, Security Operations, Vulnerability Response (VR), CMDB, Integration Hub, and related applications.

The ServiceNow Architect ensures all architectural solutions meet enterprise standards, support future scalability, comply with NIH/NIAID governance requirements, and integrate seamlessly across cross-functional systems. This role is highly technical and strategic, requiring deep ServiceNow expertise, strong systems engineering knowledge, and the ability to lead technical direction across a complex federal environment.

Other responsibilities will include:
  • Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of NIAID's enterprise ServiceNow platform and related workflows.
  • Establish system information requirements and translate them into platform-wide architecture, data models, integration standards, and governance approaches.
  • Ensure platform architecture meets Agency enterprise architecture, open systems architecture standards (OSI, ISO models), and NIH/NIAID compliance requirements.
  • Design sustainable solutions that support present and future cross-functional needs, integrations, and module expansion.
  • Govern configuration and custom development to ensure alignment with best practices, maintainability, and upgrade readiness.
  • Oversee architectural decisions for ITSM, ITOM, CMDB, SecOps/VR, WSD, integrations, catalog design, discovery, and service mapping.
  • Lead analysis and resolution of complex workflow, organizational, and system planning challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance, daily direction, and oversight to developers, administrators, analysts, and integration engineers.
  • Define technical roadmaps, sequencing of modernization initiatives, and architectural standards.
  • Review and validate data models, integration patterns, API specifications, CMDB design, and cross-system interoperability.
  • Collaborate with federal leadership and stakeholders to define requirements, review designs, validate solutions, and ensure architectural quality.
  • Maintain architectural documentation, system baselines, diagrams, interface inventories, and configuration governance artifacts.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, accessibility (508), coding, and configuration standards.
  • Lead platform upgrade preparations, release planning, and architectural readiness assessments.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of experience as a Systems Architect, Enterprise Architect, or similar role.
  • ServiceNow certifications (CSA, CAD, CIS - ITSM, ITOM, CMDB, SecOps, VR, or Architect).
  • Extensive hands-on experience architecting and delivering enterprise solutions on the ServiceNow platform.
  • Deep knowledge of ServiceNow architecture, common service data model (CSDM), application design, scripting, tables, integrations, and platform constraints.
  • Experience designing scalable architecture across multiple modules (ITSM, ITOM, CMDB, SecOps/VR, Discovery, Service Mapping).
  • Expertise with REST/SOAP integrations, MID Servers, API orchestration, and enterprise interoperability patterns.
  • Strong understanding of OSI/ISO models, open systems standards, and agency enterprise architecture frameworks (as required by LCAT).
  • Ability to analyze technical workflows, system behaviors, and organizational requirements to design corrective solutions.
  • Experience supervising technical teams or providing daily direction to engineering staff.
  • Experience working in Agile environments with structured release and change management.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NIH Public Trust.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience integrating ServiceNow with enterprise security tools (Splunk, Tenable, Defender, Azure AD).
  • Experience with enterprise architecture modeling, system diagrams, interface inventories, and configuration governance.
  • Experience in federal health IT, NIH, or other regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with security operations workflows, vulnerability response processes, and compliance frameworks (FISMA, NIST 800-53).
  • Experience leading data migration, transformation mapping, CSDM alignment, discovery design, or service mapping modernization.
