Position Summary

This position is responsible for the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the Baggage Handling System (BHS) in San Diego, CA. Vanderlande Logistics' Customer Services division offers a wide portfolio of services including maintenance, process optimization, training, system upgrades, and modifications throughout the life cycle of a material handling system.

The Site Manager serves as the primary point of contact for our Airport and Airline partners and plays a critical role in establishing, maintaining, and strengthening those relationships. This role oversees the overall maintenance and operations of the BHS and is accountable for site leadership, team development, and driving performance to meet safety, quality, productivity, KPI, and contractual goals.

Essential Functions (Job Duties & Responsibilities)
  • Lead and direct the team to complete all required preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Manage Site P&L to achieve budgetary cost and margin goals.
  • Participate in weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings with customers and their agents to review performance.
  • Ensure proper administration of all documentation related to safety, maintenance work orders, PMs/CMs, parts inventory, and labor hours.
  • Improve capability and capacity of maintenance personnel through ongoing mentoring and training.
  • Plan and manage resources to ensure cost-effective execution by the maintenance team.
  • Train, manage, and lead employee performance to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments to solve problems and set plans to meet customer goals.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and verify that safe work practices are consistently followed.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce site-specific policies and procedures, including communication plans, safety plans, contingency plans, attendance, quality control, inventory management, training requirements, and PLC code control (per TSA guidelines).
  • Assist the customer in administering the spare parts allowance and support audits of spare parts inventory.
  • Promote training initiatives and generate standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct root-cause assessments for BHS failures and ongoing BHS assessments.
  • Maintain current software licenses with the Airport and vendors.
  • Track and administer the BHS parts warranty program.
  • Provide written reports as requested by the customer.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Competencies)
  • Strong customer interface skills with professional communication and presentation abilities.
  • Proven ability to establish and build strong customer relationships.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated record of leading teams, including during challenging situations.

Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's or Technical Degree and/or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in maintenance management and managing employees, including leading, motivating, and mentoring teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with PLC software (a plus).
  • Experience in industrial, commercial construction, or material handling/conveyor systems.
  • Experience adhering to and implementing customer contracts.
  • Experience coordinating HR functions including recruiting, hiring, training, appraisals, and employee recognition.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven track record of problem-solving, taking on entrepreneurial challenges, and simplifying complex issues.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations or Engineering.
  • Airport and/or warehouse operations experience.
  • Conveyor or material handling services experience.

Starting pay range: $135,000-$140,000 (actual wage may vary based on budget, experience, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location).
