Service Foreman (I-IV) - HVACPosition OverviewAs a Service Foreman (I-IV) - HVAC at a Modigent operating company, you will lead service technicians in the delivery of commercial HVAC repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and retrofit work. You will oversee daily service operations, ensure high-quality workmanship, maintain strong customer relationships, and drive safety and productivity. Working closely with Service Managers and dispatch, you will coordinate resources, resolve issues in the field, and mentor team members. Progression through Levels I-IV reflects increasing scope of responsibility, technical leadership, crew size, and independence in managing service operations.
Duties and Responsibilities by LevelService Foreman I - HVAC- Provide daily guidance, training, and direction to service technicians on assigned calls and projects.
- Oversee basic troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance tasks under the direction of higher-level leadership.
- Ensure crews follow service procedures, safety requirements, and company policies.
- Assist with material coordination, daily progress tracking, and basic documentation.
- Conduct or support toolbox talks and enforce PPE compliance.
- Communicate job status and issues to the Service Manager or dispatch.
- Support quality checks and customer communication as directed.
Service Foreman II - HVAC- Independently lead small to moderate service crews on repair, maintenance, and light retrofit work.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily service activities including scheduling support, material needs, and technician assignments.
- Review work orders, ensure accurate documentation, and provide timely updates to dispatch and leadership.
- Document incidents, recommend corrective actions, and support safety compliance.
- Conduct job site quality checks and ensure work meets company standards.
- Coordinate with customers, dispatch, and other trades as needed.
- Mentor lower-level technicians and Service Foreman I team members.
Service Foreman III - HVAC- Lead larger or more complex service teams with a high degree of independence.
- Manage complex troubleshooting, multi-system repairs, and service retrofit coordination.
- Develop solutions to prevent recurring issues; proactively manage technician performance and customer expectations.
- Oversee full on-site service functions including quality assurance, safety enforcement, and accurate reporting.
- Ensure all personnel comply with procedures, safety programs, and company policies; implement corrective actions.
- Conduct thorough job reviews and drive continuous improvement in service delivery.
- Coordinate closely with Service Managers, customers, and other departments.
- Train and develop team members while driving productivity, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Service Foreman IV - HVAC- Serve as a senior field leader for complex service operations, multi-site accounts, or specialized service work.
- Partner with Service Managers on capacity planning, technician development, and operational strategy.
- Lead full service sequencing, resource allocation, and cross-functional coordination.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, response times, first-time fix rates, and customer experience.
- Mentor and develop Service Foremen I-III and technicians; support succession planning.
- Represent the company professionally with high-value customers and key stakeholders.
- Ensure complete documentation, close-out accuracy, and lessons-learned capture.
- Act as a key escalation point for field issues and a trusted advisor to service leadership.
Supervisory Responsibilities Yes - All levels involve leading and mentoring HVAC service technicians. Higher levels (III-IV) oversee larger teams, multiple crews, or other foremen and carry greater accountability for performance, safety, quality, and customer outcomes.
Requirements/Qualifications- Experience:
- Level I: Minimum 5 years commercial HVAC service experience; emerging leadership experience.
- Level II: 5+ years service experience with 2+ years leading work.
- Level III: 5+ years service experience with 4+ years leading work; ability to manage teams of varying sizes.
- Level IV: Extensive progressive HVAC service experience with proven ability to lead complex operations and develop others.
- Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Certifications/Licenses: EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required. Relevant HVAC certifications (NATE, manufacturer training) preferred. OSHA 30 preferred. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, frequently bend, lift, stand, and walk on uneven terrain or in confined spaces, and safely climb ladders.
- Work Environment/Safety: Active service job sites and customer facilities. This is a safety-sensitive position. Strict adherence to safety policies and OSHA standards is required.
