Position OverviewAs a Service Estimator III - Plumbing at a Modigent operating company, you will prepare accurate, timely, and profitable estimates for commercial plumbing service and construction work. With 10+ years of commercial experience, you will handle complex scopes independently, partner with service and operations teams, and support winning proposals for repairs, replacements, retrofits, and related plumbing projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and the ability to turn site conditions, drawings, and customer requirements into clear, competitive pricing.
Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates and proposals for commercial plumbing service and construction work, including repairs, replacements, retrofits, and system upgrades.
- Walk jobs, review drawings/specifications, and build estimates from field findings and project documents.
- Price labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and related costs with a focus on accuracy, profitability, and contract compliance.
- Partner with Service Technicians, Foremen, Project Managers, and Sales to gather scope details and validate assumptions.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing and lead times.
- Prepare professional proposals and supporting documentation for customers.
- Support more complex estimates such as multi-trade coordination, unit replacements, and larger commercial plumbing scopes.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, proposals, and customer communications.
- Track estimate status and support handoff to operations after award.
- Identify scope gaps, risks, and value opportunities before pricing is issued.
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone. May provide informal guidance to Estimator I-II team members.
Requirements/Qualifications- Experience: 10+ years of commercial plumbing experience, including estimating, field work, or a combination of both. Commercial plumbing construction and service estimating experience strongly preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Physical Demands: Office-based work with job walks and site visits as needed. Ability to walk active commercial job sites.
- Work Environment/Safety: Combination of office and field environments. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Required Skills- In-depth knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, materials, methods, and codes.
- Proven ability to produce accurate estimates and professional proposals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- High attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Strong customer-service and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and shifting priorities.
- Familiarity with purchasing processes and vendor coordination.
- Experience quoting plumbing system replacements, retrofits, and commercial construction scopes preferred.
Pay Range: $110,000 - $115,000 per year
