Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal/ Sr Principal Program Manager Deputy Engineer for the Aero/Fluids/CFD team SOW. This position is located in Roy, Utah and supports the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You Will Get To Do:

As a Principal/ Sr Principal Program Manager Deputy Engineer on the Aero/Fluids/CFD team (~20 team members) you will be responsible for supporting the program manager in guiding the team in the execution of technical Statement of Work and ensuring the team is on track to meet schedule and budget. You will be responsible for a variety of program management tasks to support the team. You will work with the team's Sr. Program Leadership and lead discussions with external stakeholders to ensure all deliverables remain on schedule and notify the program manager when items are starting to fall behind.

Position responsibilities include:
  • Updating IMS (Integrated Master Schedule)
  • Resource Loading (People and High Performance Computers
  • Cost Estimates
  • BOEs (Basis of Estimates)
  • Leading/running Jira Scrum meeting and in charge of the Jira board for the team.
  • Ensure team members are updating Jira and prepared for the meetings.
  • First line of team's defense for when deadlines are starting to slip.
  • Tracking and updating Time Charging Instructions for the team.
  • Tracking EVMS (Earned Value Management System) for the team.
  • Track, monitor, and push aero/fluids specific CRs and Board approvals.
  • Help facilitate and lead meetings with organizations outside of NGDS.
  • Assist team with preparing formal review charts, and ensuring they are polished for customer reviews.
  • Proof reading documents for quality control.
  • Ensuring team members are following PROPs (Principles and Operating Practices) and MIL Standards.
  • Tracking current cluster status and issues working to get them fixed.
  • Track CFD cluster run log.
  • Track requirements status and ensure all requirements continue to be met.
  • Track coordination memos and change requests for the team.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

This role can be filled at the Principal Program Manager Deputy Engineer (T03) or Sr. Principal Program Manager Deputy Engineer (T04) level.

PrincipalProgram Manager Deputy Engineer: 5 years with Bachelors in Science in Aeronautical Engineering or related Engineering field; 3 years with Masters; 1 year with PhD or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Active In Scope DoD Secret Security Clearance with a reinvestigation within 6 years
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead work across Integrated Product Teams and external suppliers.
  • Experience in performing in an Agile environment and deep understanding of JIRA.
  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities Proficient in excel and excellent note taking ability.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.


Sr. Principal Program Manager Deputy Engineer: 8 Years with Bachelors in Science; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Active In Scope DoD Secret Security Clearance with a reinvestigation within 6 years
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead work across Integrated Product Teams and external suppliers.
  • Experience in performing in an Agile environment and deep understanding of JIRA.
  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities Proficient in excel and excellent note taking ability.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years of experience as Scrum Master.
  • Master's degree in engineering or business field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project and/or P6.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a technical effort/team through an EMD program in compliance of program requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience working with customers and senior leadership to ensure project success.
  • Experience with creating Integrated Master Schedules, Earned Value Management System, and Cost Estimation.
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics principles, aerodynamic theory, and numerical methods used in various types of simulation (Subsonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and rarefied flow).
  • Experience working with Linux and Windows based HPC's for aero/fluids work.
  • Experience developing aerodynamic models, tools, databases using Matlab, Python, C++ or similar for integration into 3/6DOF simulations.
  • Experience with analytical aerodynamic design tools, e.g. Missile DATCOM or similar.
  • Experience analyzing wind tunnel test data and flight test results to validate simulation outcomes and inform model adjustments.
  • Experience with commercial CFD codes such as CFD++, StarCCM+, or ANSYS Fluent including meshing, running cases, and post processing results in Tecplot.
  • DoD Top Secret Clearance.


Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
