Summary:

We can hire at Senior or Executive level for this role.

The individual will be responsible for the overall management, business development, growth and profitability, analysis, new business production, and retention of a highly complex Excess and possibly some primary Casualty book of Construction related risks.

In this role the individual will lean into their broker relationships and work to grow new relationships withing the business plan and within delegated underwriting authority.

Under general management direction, works within broad limits of authority on assignments requiring a high degree of technical complexity and coordination. May have regional, or company-wide scope.

What you will do for C&F:
  • Perform a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Underwrite, analyze, authorize risk acceptability, determine profitable rate/price, and prepare quotations/binders on all aspects of new and renewal business.
  • Provide customer service to existing accounts.
  • Market, sell and promote company products and programs to assigned producers.
  • Review and evaluate profit, volume, and service results for assigned producers.
  • Assist in developing annual business plan, analyze and evaluate results for assigned producers.
  • Attain premium, loss ratio, broker development and service goals as assigned.
  • Keep abreast of industry market trends, competition philosophy, products and distributions systems.
  • Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters and assists in the development of underwriting training.
  • Responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations

What YOU will bring to C&F:
  • College degree or equivalent.
  • Strong construction broker relationships and feedback
  • Proven track record with growth in overall book of business.
  • At least three years of experience in underwriting Commercial construction casualty E&S business, with a strong knowledge and expertise in Construction.
  • Excellent problem solving/decision making skills with the ability to influence others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize as appropriate.
  • Solid customer service and relationship building skills.
  • A proven team player with a drive to succeed.
  • Ability to develop new business relationships.
  • Abide by departmental guidelines, policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management controls.
  • Demonstrated desire and commitment to continually learn, accept new challenges, and strive for personal improvement/growth utilizing internal and external continuing education avenues.
  • Ability to learn and use proprietary software and various computer systems and stay current with changes.
  • Travel as necessary to producer marketing visits and corporate meetings/seminars.
  • Will abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management controls.
