Job Description

The Senior Water Resources Engineer position is based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and is responsible for the planning, analysis, and delivery of water resources engineering and hydraulic modeling solutions for municipal infrastructure, land development, and urban development projects. The role collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support the successful delivery of projects across the region.

The role includes planning, design, and execution of municipal servicing and water infrastructure projects spanning subdivisions, mixed-use developments, stormwater systems, and water/wastewater conveyance networks. Work covers full project lifecycles from concept design through construction and post-construction acceptance, with a strong interface with municipal approvals and regulatory submissions.

The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of experience in water resources engineering, with demonstrated leadership in hydraulic modeling, municipal servicing design, and regulatory coordination across Alberta-based projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead hydraulic modeling design and review for municipal water, stormwater, and wastewater systems using industry-standard software.
  • Deliver engineering design and planning for land development, municipal servicing, and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, technologists, and subconsultants.
  • Act as technical authority on stormwater management, water conveyance, and municipal servicing systems.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, drawings, and regulatory submissions for municipal approvals.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement with developers, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Integrate sustainable design practices, including Low Impact Development (LID) and green infrastructure solutions.
  • Support business development activities, including proposal preparation and client presentations.
  • Conduct quality control and design review to ensure compliance, constructability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor regulatory frameworks and industry standards, advising project teams on compliance requirements.
  • Promote market presence and client relationships through industry engagement and networking activities.


Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in municipal servicing, land development, or water infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed with APEGA (Alberta).
  • Proven experience in hydraulic modeling and design of water, stormwater, and wastewater systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcView GIS, PCSWMM, MIKE Suite, WaterCAD, SewerCAD.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal engineering standards and approvals processes in Alberta.
  • Demonstrated capability in technical reporting, design review, and regulatory submissions.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
  • Valid driver's license with access to a registered and insured vehicle.

Assets
  • Master's degree in Water Resources Engineering.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Dynamo or Python.
  • Exposure to Alberta-based land development projects and municipal clients.
  • Bilingual capability (English/French).
  • Experience with sustainable infrastructure design or climate resilience initiatives.
