Full Job Description
John Hancock has an exciting opportunity for a passionate, results-oriented, and creative visual designer to support its U.S. Marketing team. We are looking for a designer who would enjoy our dynamic and fast-paced environment, where we embrace a collaborative "get it done together" mindset. The successful candidate provides strategic and innovative creative for both print and digital. You are confident in your ideas and can passionately present them internally in rough form - as well as finely polished when presenting to our partners.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering designs that engage customers/financial advisors, while helping to drive sales. You'll be working in close collaboration with our Copywriters, Video Team and Content Managers on a variety of projects.

The Insurance Marketing Team, of which the Senior Visual Designer is a key part, is responsible for the design and execution of product launches, events, campaigns, B2B relationships, sales enablement, Vitality member engagement, and producer and policyholder communications. This team is an integral part of our comprehensive marketing organization, which includes brand, human-centered design, digital, analytics, and integrated production. Together, these teams collaborate closely to craft our marketing narrative, deliver connected customer experiences, and demonstrate the business value of marketing.

Position Responsibilities:

Art Direction/Graphic Design
  • Routinely conceptualize creative solutions that effectively communicate the strategic intent for each tactic within the assigned projects
  • Deliver strategic thinking and visual direction for a broad range of materials - from print to digital to video
  • Work collaboratively with Copywriters to develop creative concepts and executions of assigned projects
  • Possess solid understanding of the science and market dynamics of assigned projects
  • Work closely with Project Managers to schedule and monitor all projects
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks, as directed by Head of Brand Creative
  • Assist in making presentations to internal stakeholders and external clients


Special Focus Areas
  • Work closely with Social Media manager to conceptualize and design social content for brand channels
  • Partner with UX designers on digital experiences, leading visual design and ensuring brand consistency


Brand Stewardship
  • Educate and inform business partners on the correct use of the brand
  • Create strategies on updating off-brand materials
  • Constantly look for ways to stretch and push the brand to separate work from a sea of sameness
  • Work with external partners and third-party vendors to ensure corporate brand is represented and consistent
  • Work with internal business partners and creatives to assess and grow the brand organically from a corporate perspective (COP)
  • Contribute to brand-related discussions and research topics regarding branded assets and materials for use by members of the company as a whole (media, logos, color palette, templates, etc.)


Shared Accountabilities
  • Ensure the correct processes are being followed
  • Raise the creative bar - both strategy and execution


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Design Art, Media (or equivalent) required
  • Strong experience in corporate branding systems
  • At least 5-8 years related design experience, preferably with emphasis on financial industry marketing print materials
  • MAC proficiency as well as a thorough knowledge of design software (Adobe Creative Suit: In-Design, Illustrator, PhotoShop, Microsoft Suite)
  • Strong and thorough understanding of traditional design skills including sketching, composition, storyboarding
  • Thorough understanding of typography, color palettes, grid systems, and final file preparation for print and/or web


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Figma a plus
