Full Job Description
THE JOB

As a Senior Vice President, Philanthropic Engagement a typical day will include:
  • Providing leadership and managerial oversight for the Philanthropic Engagement team (currently 7 fundraisers and 4 cross-departmental supporters), ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, goals, and long-term growth objectives.
  • Fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and results-driven relationship management.
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective and current donors.
  • Driving fundraising goals and metrics focused on increasing gifts of current donors, expanding the prospect pipeline, securing new gifts, and introducing legacy solicitations.
  • Planning and implementing fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship events, ensuring meaningful donor experiences that strengthen relationships and advance philanthropic goals.
  • Ensuring that #GivingBBYODay reaches its full potential.
  • Ensuring fundraisers are effectively managing all regional grant activity, including proposal development, submissions, reporting, and adherence to deadlines and funder requirements.
  • Partnering with BBYO's Alumni Association to deepen alumni engagement, strengthen philanthropic participation, and identify new opportunities for donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Working closely with marketing team to develop donor-facing storytelling, stewardship strategies, campaign messaging, and communications initiatives that advance fundraising goals.
  • Leveraging CRM data and the PE operations team to identify, prioritize, and qualify prospective donors, informing targeted cultivation strategies and pipeline development efforts to optimize engagement strategies.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with board members and senior volunteer leaders, leveraging their expertise, networks, and influence to advance BBYO's fundraising goals and strategic priorities.
  • Working closely with Community Impact team (BBYO's teen facing professionals) to gain knowledge of ongoing BBYO activities in local communities.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

After the first year, the Senior Vice President of Philanthropic Engagement will have established momentum across BBYO's fundraising activities and strengthened the organization's capacity to achieve its most ambitious goals. Success may be demonstrated through:
  • Growth in philanthropic support, including increased donor retention, new and upgraded gifts, and an expanded pipeline of prospective supporters.
  • A strengthened culture of philanthropy with volunteer leaders, staff, alumni, and stakeholders actively engaged in advancing fundraising efforts.
  • Effective use of data, technology, and donor insights to drive strategy, identify opportunities, and enhance donor engagement.
  • Expand relationships with donors, philanthropic leaders, and prospective supporters capable of making investments in BBYO's future.
  • Increased engagement of BBYO's alumni community as advocates, ambassadors, and philanthropic partners.
  • A high-performing Philanthropic Engagement team with clear priorities, strong accountability, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Fundraising systems, processes, and strategies that position BBYO for sustained growth and long-term success.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree and/or relevant fundraising certifications preferred.
  • 15+ years of fundraising, ideally in a nonprofit environment
  • 7+ years of management experience building, leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Demonstrated success leading sophisticated fundraising programs and securing significant philanthropic investments.
  • Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and storytelling skills, with the ability to inspire support from a wide range of audiences.
  • Familiarity with modern CRM systems, fundraising analytics, donor prospecting tools, and emerging technologies that support philanthropic engagement.
  • Experience with Salesforce is preferred.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Commitment to BBYO's mission and an appreciation for the role Jewish teen engagement plays in building vibrant Jewish communities and future generations of leaders.
  • Attend major BBYO events including Staff Conference, International Convention, Departmental Retreats and Leadership Team meetings.
  • Travel as needed to support fundraising activities, donor cultivation and stewardship, partnership development, and other philanthropic engagement opportunities.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. without holding a visa or sponsorship.

Compensation
  • Salary is heavily based on experience, starting at $200,000

Location

This U.S.-based position is preferably located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and will operate in a hybrid work environment. Exceptional candidates located elsewhere in the United States will be considered for remote employment.
