Full Job Description
The Senior Vice President of Talent and Chief People Officer is a mission driven executive who leads the people strategy for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. This role serves as a key member of the Strategic Leadership Team and provides strategic guidance on culture, workforce planning, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness. The CPO oversees the full talent lifecycle, directs total rewards, ensures compliance, and drives initiatives that strengthen engagement, performance, and inclusion across the association. This leader advances a high performing culture grounded in the YMCA values and supports long term organizational success through thoughtful planning, coaching, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Ten to fifteen years of progressive leadership experience in HR or talent.
  • Demonstrated success advising senior leaders and influencing across diverse levels.
  • Experience in mission driven or nonprofit environments preferred.


Essential Functions

  • Strategic Leadership - Serve as a key member of the Strategic Leadership Team and provide executive direction for all people and culture priorities.
  • Executive Advising - Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, senior leaders, and Board on talent strategy, culture, and workforce planning.
  • Culture and Change Management - Lead organizational change efforts that strengthen engagement, performance, alignment, and mission centered culture.
  • Equity and Inclusion - Champion equity, diversity, inclusion, and global engagement across programs, policies, and organizational practices.
  • Talent Lifecycle Leadership - Oversee attraction, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, succession planning, and retention to support a strong and sustainable workforce.
  • Leadership Development - Direct leadership development, coaching, and learning programs that prepare emerging and high potential talent for future roles.
  • Organizational Assessment - Evaluate staff capabilities, organizational structure, and talent readiness; recommend improvements that elevate performance.
  • Total Rewards Strategy - Lead the design and oversight of compensation, benefits, wellness, and recognition programs.
  • Compliance Oversight - Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and board approved policies.
  • HR Systems and Analytics - Drive process improvement and optimize HR systems, reporting, and analytics to support operational excellence.
  • Committee Leadership - Lead and participate in HR, Leadership Development, Executive Compensation, Employee Resource Groups, and national YMCA networks.
  • Operational Management - Manage the HR budget and conduct cost and productivity analysis to inform decision making.
  • Other_Duties - Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
