Full Job Description
The Sr. Underwriting Risk Specialist will utilize strong underwriting, data analysis, and market knowledge to support the Integrated Analytics team with risk assessment and placement of risks. Evaluate new data sources for protective value, potential use cases, and gap analysis vs. traditional data sources. Assessment of existing underwriting logic and development of new underwriting logic. Understanding of where data science methods vs. linear rules-based logic can be utilized in assessing risks. Collaborate cross-departmentally to bring products to our clients generating profit for the company. Consult on user experience and user interfaces of underwriting technology, both rules designer and workbench.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with external client companies, internal data scientists, business analysts, and other underwriters to develop and build out accelerated underwriting (AUW) programs. Heavy emphasis on best in class rules development. Consult clients on all aspects of an AUW program from the risk selection perspective including third party data tools and monitoring techniques leveraging strong technical expertise and market knowledge.
  • Work with various distribution channels to implement new underwriting programs.
  • Collaborate with team members and across departments to maximize Munich Re AUW solutions, tools, new data sources, and improve our risk assessment platforms.
  • Monitor AUW findings, identify risks, gaps in process, and develop strategy with clients to implement appropriate solutions.
  • Engage with vendors and our legal team to unlock opportunities for Munich Re to become critical in deployment and wide market usage of the latest vendor offerings. Expert level knowledge of Accelerated Underwriting programs, rules, and models for both internal and external needs.
  • Understand and address competitive, regulatory, or other threats, formulate a response, and present concerns internally as appropriate.
  • Represent and promote Munich Re at industry meetings and business travel to client's offices.
  • Display team's expertise internally and even globally.


Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of life underwriting experience including direct life insurer
  • Reinsurance underwriting experience preferred
  • Industry related designation preferred (ALMI, FLMI, AALU) or some CLU/FALU industry related classes passed
  • Strong underwriting rules development and QA testing skills
  • Ability to define user experience and user interface of underwriting platforms
  • Expert-level knowledge of underwriting workflows and technology
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
