As a Middle and Large Commercial Underwriter in the technology sector, you will quarterback the sales and underwriting process by building exceptionally strong and lasting relationships with agents and brokers, ensuring that The Hartford is the carrier of choice. Success in this role will also entail effective account stewardship by managing the sales process from strategic planning to operational excellence and developing cross-sell and up-sell opportunities across the team. We have a collaborative and results oriented environment, where approachable industry leaders mentor and inspire their teams to win in the market and have fun while doing it.

We are seeking a highly skilled Underwriter, who is responsible for the following:
  • Manages and Underwrites a Middle Market Technology book of business
  • Analyzes agency book on quarter-to-quarter basis for potential action
  • Expertly applies all applicable Underwriting guidelines when making decisions
  • Capable of underwriting highly complex business and will require limited support from senior underwriters and infrequent referral activity to complete quotes
  • Has thorough knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and governance
  • Agency Management which includes creating, driving and execution of strategies for new and/or renewal accounts (prospective book management, executes on the mix strategy, low strategy, territorial and agency sales plans, etc.)
  • Acts as a trusted advisor and solution provider to Brokers and Agents


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 3+ years of P&C Middle Market or Technology Carrier production underwriting experience is required; E&O underwriting experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.

Location:

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Los Angeles, CA or Brea, CA office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$76,400 - $180,000

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
