The division is one of the first insurance companies to recognize the special needs of these organizations. Over the years, coverage and services have expanded to ensure expertise to meet the evolving needs of this marketplace.  Our Specialty Human Services Division is seeking a Senior Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist to join its team. Job level and pay will be dependent on the successful candidate’s level of experience. This role supports the Pacific Northwest territory and includes occasional travel within this territory. This position is based out of the downtown Cincinnati office. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities - Evaluates and underwrites new and renewal business in accordance with Company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite. - Analyzes risk data to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms. - Collaborates with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain necessary information and clarify details. - Orders and reviews additional reports and screens, such as motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, outside inspections, etc., to inform decisions. - Ensures proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal insurance regulations. - Evaluates existing policies for potential renewal or modification. - Communicates underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers. - Stays updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions. - Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers, focusing on generating new business and retaining profitable business. - Interprets, explains, and markets products and services. - Performs other duties as assigned.  Job Requirements - Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field or equivalent experience. - Generally, 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or a related field. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM). - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates strong analytical skills with attention to detail. - Position requires occasional travel.
