Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Underwriter Assistant to join our Reinsurance Underwriting Support team.

Our team provides underwriting support across Sompo's global reinsurance platform. We partner closely with brokers, underwriters, and cross-functional teams to deliver accurate, timely underwriting execution through technical contract expertise, disciplined data management, and operational excellence. Working alongside underwriting, claims, finance, actuarial, legal, IT, and operations, you'll play a key role in supporting deal execution, renewals, and portfolio management.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Interpret and analyze reinsurance deals for accurate system entry and program setup.

  • Manage underwriting programs by maintaining data integrity, documentation, reports, and portfolio tracking.

  • Coordinate the renewal process, including gathering prior-year data, experience reports, AM Best information, and accounting items.

  • Review slips and contracts for accuracy, compare renewals, maintain diary systems, and ensure complete documentation supporting final contract terms.

  • Monitor accounts, premium activity, cash receipts, contract adjustments, and provisional notices of cancellation.

  • Partner with brokers, clients, Finance, Claims, IT, and Business Services to support contract administration and account processing.

  • Create and maintain management and portfolio reports using underwriting systems, Excel, and reporting tools.

  • Support business initiatives through research, financial analysis, presentations, marketing materials, and special projects.

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and systems, participate in user acceptance testing (UAT), and contribute ideas that enhance team effectiveness.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of reinsurance industry experience with a broker, reinsurer, or ceded reinsurance department.

  • Strong knowledge of reinsurance contract wording and underwriting support processes.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables; experience with Power BI is a plus.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work proactively, and collaborate effectively across teams.

  • Experience maintaining accurate data, producing reports, and supporting underwriting operations in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range:$90,000 – $150,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
