Join AECOM's dynamic tunneling team as a Senior Tunnel Construction Project Manager in our Austin, Texas office. This is an opportunity to take a leadership role across two major Central Texas infrastructure projects, including an ongoing large-scale TBM drainage tunnel project and a separate drainage tunnelpump station project.. You will serve as a senior point of contact for the client while leading multidisciplinary construction teams through complex project delivery, with a strong focus on safety, quality, schedule, cost, constructability and commissioning.

This role is ideal for a construction leader who understands the complexities of major tunnel and underground infrastructure projects and enjoys working directly with clients, contractors, designers, and field teams. You will help guide delivery of critical infrastructure while addressing the unique challenges associated with TBM operations, underground construction, dewatering, pump station facilities, drainage tunnels, and coordination with TXDOT and other project stakeholders. The position offers a hybrid work model with opportunities for significant field and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage construction activities across two major infrastructure projects, providing leadership to project managers, construction managers, field staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide senior construction leadership for an ongoing large-scale TBM tunnel project, coordinating project activities and design reviews associated with underground excavation, tunnel construction, support systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Lead construction management activities for a separate project involving drainage tunnel pump station infrastructure, coordinating design reviews, construction sequencing, interfaces, commissioning requirements, and operational considerations.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between AECOM, the client, and designers while maintaining strong communication regarding project progress, risks, cost, schedule, quality, value engineering, and construction issues.
  • Coordinate closely with TXDOT, contractors, design teams, inspectors, and other stakeholders to resolve construction issues and maintain alignment with project requirements and applicable TXDOT standards.
  • Maintain accountability for delivery of all facets of the constructed projects in accordance with the design, contract requirements, budget, schedule, safety expectations, and quality standards.
  • Lead project planning and execution across the full construction life cycle, including pre-construction budgeting and scheduling, procurement, construction, facility start-up and operations, commissioning, and contract closeout.
  • Manage construction scheduling, sequencing and interfaces between tunneling operations, pump station facilities, drainage infrastructure, utilities, surface improvements, and other project elements.
  • Work with the client and project teams to identify and address value engineering concepts, construction risks, changes, claims, schedule impacts, cost issues, and constructability concerns.
  • Provide leadership in coordinating client maintenance and operational requirements, helping ensure construction activities are planned around existing facilities, infrastructure, and ongoing client operations.
  • Establish and maintain project controls for budget, schedule, cost forecasting, change management, risk, and overall project performance.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to subordinate managers and project personnel while leading a diverse team of construction professionals.
  • Enforce AECOM and project-specific policies, procedures, safety requirements, quality standards, and contractual obligations throughout project delivery.
  • Support client engagement, project reporting, issue resolution, and strategic decision-making at the senior project level.
  • Lead coordination during facility start-up, testing, commissioning, and transition to operations, including resolution of outstanding construction and operational issues.
  • Maintain primary fiscal responsibility for the assigned projects and proactively manage financial performance, risks, and opportunities for both the client and AECOM.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • BA/BS and 10+ years of relevant experience in tunnel and pump station construction or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Registered professional engineer in the State of Texas.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Manager for projects with construction costs exceeding $500 million USD including employee management of a diverse pool of professionals.
  • Extensive knowledge of Texas DOT standard specifications.
  • Some knowledge of AASHTOWare Project - Construction & Materials.
  • Extensive knowledge of budget management and risks for the client and AECOM.
  • 10+ years' experience in managing the entire project including direct client interface
