YOUR ROLE

The Senior Trader has a highly visible role within Genworth's Investments organization as a key market-facing partner for the public credit portfolio. The role is responsible for bringing real-time market insight, dealer dialogue, execution discipline, and liquidity perspective into the investment process. The role is expected to focus primarily on public Investment Grade and High Yield Corporate Credit, with potential responsibilities across Municipal Credit and Structured Credit, including ABS, CMBS, RMBS, and CLOs. Responsibilities may also expand to support private Corporate and Structured Credit mandates.

You will report to the Head of Credit Portfolio Management & Trading and partner closely with Credit Portfolio Managers, Credit Research, Portfolio Management, and other Traders to implement investment strategies that align with the portfolio's strategic asset allocation, corporate credit strategy, risk appetite, and policyholder obligations. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong public credit markets expertise, sound business judgment, and an ability to influence investment decisions through market insight and execution perspective. Preferred candidates should also understand how insurance company assets are invested to meet policyholder obligations and be able to support ongoing process improvement, automation, reporting, and analytical enhancements that strengthen the Trading function and broader Investments organization.

What you will be doing
  • Execute primary market, secondary market, and portfolio trades across assigned public credit asset classes, with a primary focus on Investment Grade and High Yield Corporate Credit.
  • Translate portfolio strategy into executable trade recommendations by advising Credit PMs on market levels, timing, liquidity, relative value, trade structure, and implementation risk.
  • Provide market insight by monitoring macroeconomic trends, credit market technicals, liquidity conditions, dealer feedback, new issue activity, and sector developments.
  • Generate trade ideas and tactical recommendations based on relative value, market flows, dealer dialogue, dislocations, and portfolio optimization opportunities.
  • Foster strong dealer counterparty relationships and maintain Genworth's market presence and standing with external partners.
  • Contribute to process improvement, automation, reporting, and analytics that improve execution quality, transparency, and workflow efficiency.
  • Mentor team members and help develop market judgment, execution discipline, and trading workflow ownership.
  • Adhere to applicable risk, compliance, accounting, and operational policies and procedures.

What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a trading role, preferably in an asset management organization
  • Self-starter, with excellent organizational skills and proven ability to work independently
  • Very strong bond valuation framework
  • Ability to build relationships with internal partners, including analysts, credit portfolio managers, portfolio managers, risk managers and others
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, engage constructively in debate, influence others with credibility, and balance assertiveness with discretion.
  • Must be able to stay ahead in a constantly changing environment to include market activity, business direction and priorities
  • Exercise integrity and sound business judgment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and leadership traits to assist with the daily operation of an organization
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and accurately complete them in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Excellent written / verbal communications skills and the ability to present effectively to leadership at the skip level
  • Strong functional capability with Bloomberg and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Nice to have
