Corning is seeking a
SeniorThermal Process Engineer to join our Manufacturing, Technology & Engineering team at Sullivan Park in
Corning, NY. This onsite role supports a typical Monday-Friday schedule with flexibility as projects require and includes approximately
50% travel, primarily to Corning manufacturing and development sites in U.S. locations through international may be a possibility.

high-temperature manufacturing and development programs across Corning such as
glass melting,
glass forming, heat treatment, fiber optic processes, ceramics, advanced optics, and solar manufacturing. The engineer will apply process engineering, materials science, and data-driven problem-solving to help transition processes from development into manufacturing, resolve production issues, and improve safety, quality, yield, reliability, and throughput.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze process and product data to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve thermal process upsets, defects, yield losses, and equipment-performance issues.
- Plan and execute process trials, experiments, and evaluations; develop hypotheses and use structured problem-solving to recommend solutions.
- Support process scale-up, technology transfer, and manufacturing readiness from development through production.
- Partner with operators, technicians, manufacturing engineers, development teams, and other stakeholders to implement process improvements.
- Support manufacturing line startups, capacity expansions, equipment ramp-up, and process stabilization activities.
- Apply process improvement methods, such as root cause analysis, Design of Experiments, Lean, DMAIC, or similar tools, to improve safety, quality, cost, yield, and throughput.
- Maintain process documentation, standards, control plans, and operating procedures for assigned work.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Glass Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 2+ years of technical or engineering experience in manufacturing, process development, or a related industrial environment.
- Experience with glass melting, glass forming, ceramic firing, fiber optic manufacturing, heat treatment, or another high-temperature materials/process environment.
- Experience analyzing process data and supporting troubleshooting, root cause analysis, process trials, or process improvement.
- Ability to work independently on an assigned project while collaborating effectively across manufacturing, engineering, and development teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and sound technical judgment.
- Ability to travel domestically approximately 50%, based on project needs.
Desired Qualifications and Skills- Master's degree in a relevant engineering or materials discipline.
- Experience supporting development-to-manufacturing scale-up, production support, line startup, equipment commissioning, or capacity expansion.
- Experience with fiber optic processes, fusion draw, advanced glass/materials manufacturing, ceramic processing, furnaces, kilns, lehrs, or thermal equipment.
- Familiarity with DOE, DMAIC, Lean, Manufacturing Engineering Excellence, statistical analysis, or process control methods.
- Experience leading technical projects or cross-functional workstreams.
This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
