Job Title: Senior Specialist, Quality EngineeringJob Location: Ottawa, ONJob Code: 40791Job Schedule: Day ShiftCompensation Range: Between $79,000 - $129,000 CDN annuallyWe're looking for a Senior Test Engineer to drive quality for products spanning hardware, embedded firmware, and application software. You'll design test strategies, build automation, and embed quality throughout the SDLC, working closely with product and engineering teams to ship reliable telecom systems.
Essential Funtions:- Drive the end-to-end quality strategy for your projects and releases, covering integration, business acceptance, performance, security, operability, and deployment verification;
- Define test strategies across hardware, firmware, and application layers, including their interactions;
- Help establish and optimize QA processes, ensuring alignment with engineering delivery practices, DevOps pipelines, and organizational standards;
- Design and maintain test plans, test cases, and automated test suites;
- Partner with product and engineering stakeholders to proactively identify risks, scope impacts, and ensure quality is embedded throughout the SDLC;
- Set up and maintain the computer hardware, operating systems, and networks needed to support testing; and
- Manage defect lifecycle and contribute to release quality.
Qualifications- University degree in Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience;
- 7+ years of hands-on QA experience;
- Proven experience developing test strategies for products spanning hardware, firmware, and embedded applications in a full-lifecycle product development environment;
- Proven expertise testing telecom systems, with emphasis on SIP and performance testing;
- Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, CI/CD, tools, and processes;
- Proficient in test automation using tools such as SIPp, MQTTX, and Python;
- Knowledge of SIP, MQTT, networking systems, and protocols;
- Familiarity with Linux environments, including command-line usage;
- SCM experience using Jira and Git;
- Strong background in test strategy design, test case management, and defect lifecycle;
- Excellent team player with strong interpersonal and written communication skills;
- Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and to tight deadlines;
- Highly detail-oriented and analytical, with strong problem-solving skills and
- Passionate about building products with exceptional user experience and reliability.
Preferred Additional Skills- Experience with automation frameworks and integrating QA into CI/CD pipelines;
- Experience with security testing, such as vulnerability scanning of applications; and
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, agile environments with shifting priorities.
Operational requirements:- Must be eligible for registration to the Controlled Goods Program; and
- Must be eligible to obtaining and maintaining the government of Canada's "Reliability" status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance.
