Senior Technology Designer | Naperville, IL

IMEG is hiring a Senior Technology Designer in Naperville, Illinois. In this role, you will lead design efforts for moderate to complex projects and support the delivery of larger, high-complexity initiatives, providing project direction, technical solutions, and client guidance for low-voltage technology (ICT) systems in buildings.

You will contribute through engineering analysis, design, implementation oversight, project budgets, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration to support project objectives and client expectations. For this team, the work spans education and institutional environments with a strong technology focus in communications, security, AV, and related systems.

What You'll Do
  • Lead design analysis for IT structured cabling, audio/video, security, and other low-voltage building systems.
  • Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations to code requirements and IMEG standards using engineering software and tools.
  • Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports.
  • Gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build client relationships through professional communication.
  • Provide in-process design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Provide technical training and mentoring, and assist in resolving field issues with limited support from senior staff.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in low-voltage technology (ICT) engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work, and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with low-voltage technology ICT systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
  • Participate in project interviews and project presentations.


What You'll Bring

Qualifications (one of the following):

Option A
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer or related Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, related STEM field Engineering, or equivalent required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry

Option B
  • Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
  • 11 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry


Required Skills/Abilities
  • Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles relating to electrical voltage and current, digital and analog signals, basic IT networking topologies and protocols, as it relates to electrical low-voltage systems design for buildings
  • Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Must have the ability to travel up to 50%, including local, domestic, and international travel as needed for business purposes, which may include overnight stays and/or air travel

Salary Ranges (by jurisdiction, in compliance with local laws):

Salary Range: $107,000 - $149,000

Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
