Job Requirements

As a Senior Technical Training Specialist/Electrical & Controls Trainer for our customer, you will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering high-quality training programs to both internal and external stakeholders. You will be providing training on field level advanced controls, to an audience of Controls personnel responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility controls systems. The course covers a variety of industrial controls topics, including component configuration and network troubleshooting. Using interactive hands-on drills on a System-in-a-Box running at 120 VAC, participants gain safe troubleshooting experience across an array of complex scenarios. At the completion of the training course, the student should be able to:

  • Describe how different components of automation are used to control the movement of product through a distribution system.
  • Safely back up, restore, troubleshoot, and replace PLC systems, VFDs, communications devices, and other components.
  • Explain the use/configuration of specialized controls for modular and accumulation conveyor systems.
  • Troubleshoot fieldbus systems and sorter systems.

What You will Do:
  • Delivering training programs for customer covering operations, mechanical maintenance, controls maintenance, specific equipment, software, and customer solutions.
  • Understanding and effectively communicating how the customer's custom solutions integrate into the operation of material handling systems.
  • Adapting quickly to changing curriculum and equipment requirements.
  • Act as a subject matter expert contributing to the creation of student guides and training materials for traditional delivery platforms and fully digital deliveries.
  • Take on greater responsibilities as company and equipment knowledge grows.

What You Will Bring:
  • High proficiency with PLCs and exposure to PLC programming and industrial controls (AB and Siemens preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience delivering related training for customized products and systems, preferably in the material handling industry with an emphasis on controls.
  • Familiarity with mechanical disciplines and experience with machine diagnostics, repair, and automation.
  • Ability to read and interpret industrial mechanical and controls drawing sets and design requirements.
  • Exceptional communication and training skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong desire to help others learn

Pay Range: $50 - $65 per hour

Work Requirements:
  • This role is considered an on-site position located in Grand Rapids, MI
  • You must be able to commute to and from the location with your own transportation arrangements to meet the required working hours.
  • Ability to work while adhering to PPE requirements.
  • Physical ability to navigate around equipment in distribution centers, including bending, crouching, and reaching.
  • Comfortable navigating ladders and multi-story steel stairways.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of tools/equipment.
  • Capable of standing and navigating on concrete surfaces for extended periods, including walking long distances.
  • Proficiency in utilizing small hand tools for work performed.
  • Adaptability to work in various temperature conditions, ranging from freezer to high temperatures, and near hot surfaces and moving equipment.


Travel Expectations:

This position requires up to 50% travel.
