This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Senior Technical Manager - Environmental Engineer to join our Site Investigation & Remediation (SIR) team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role is ideal for a senior professional with deep consulting experience who can own client relationships, lead complex projects, and drive business growth in the local market.

The successful candidate will bring a strong track record in developing, managing, and delivering multi-media environmental investigation and remediation programs across sectors including Industrial, Government, Energy, Oil & Gas, and Transportation This role requires a professional who is equally strong in strategic project execution, client development, and team mentorship.

Our Carolinas team offers a collaborative, close-knit culture backed by the resources of a national platform. You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary group of engineers, geologists, scientists, and technical specialists committed to delivering high-quality, technically sound solutions.

This is a hybrid role based in Charlotte, with regular in-office presence expected to support team collaboration and client engagement. Regional travel will be required.
Your Impact
  • Serve as a strategic leader and technical authority for environmental engineering services within the SIR practice
  • Develop and grow client relationships in the Charlotte market, identifying and capturing new business opportunities
  • Lead and manage complex site investigation and remediation projects, ensuring performance on scope, schedule, and budget
  • Provide senior-level technical oversight for remedial design, implementation, and optimization
  • Drive proposal development, including scoping, pricing, and technical approach
  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and growth
  • Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated, future-ready solutions
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients on regulatory strategy, site closure pathways, and risk management
  • Ensure compliance with NCDEQ, SCDES, and USEPA Region 4 regulatory frameworks
  • Support operational performance by contributing to sales, revenue, and delivery targets
  • Uphold WSP's standards for safety, ethics, and quality
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting, including project delivery and business development
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (North Carolina preferred or ability to obtain)
  • Demonstrated success leading client relationships and generating revenue in the local/regional market
  • Extensive experience with soil and groundwater investigation and remediation, including contaminants such as petroleum hydrocarbons, metals, chlorinated solvents, PCBs, and/or PFAS
  • Experience developing conceptual site models and supporting regulatory closure strategies
  • Strong background in remedial design, construction oversight, and O&M programs
  • Experience with vapor intrusion and soil gas investigations
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary projects and teams
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-directed, motivated professional with a track record of ownership and accountability
  • Familiarity with Southeast regulatory frameworks, including NCDEQ and USEPA Region 4
  • Commitment to health and safety practices (OSHA/HAZWOPER)
  • Ability to travel regionally as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field
  • Experience with design-build or innovative remediation technologies
  • Established network of local clients and industry contacts
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (current or ability to obtain)
  • First Aid/CPR certification
