Full Job Description
Lead the editorial work that makes transportation science clear, credible, and ready to publish. The Senior Technical Editor oversees high-stakes reports, manuals, and other products grounded in highway and surface transportation research. You'll guide the full editorial lifecycle, from outline through print and web publication, while mentoring editors and coordinating large, concurrent programs.What You'll Do
  • Perform substantive editing and verify technical accuracy, references, facts, copyright permissions, and alignment with agency standards.
  • Turn engineering methods, datasets, analyses, schematics, and findings into authoritative content for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and the public.
  • Apply the GPO Style Manual consistently across publications.
  • Manage schedules, review cycles, quality control, and team assignments with minimal supervision.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of technical editing experience, including supervisory and project management responsibilities.
  • Strong command of the GPO Style Manual and complex technical documentation.
  • Ability to edit science-based transportation content; highway or surface transportation experience preferred.
  • Must be located in the DC Metro area
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to pass a Public Trust Clearance and Background Check
Education
Master's degree in English, Journalism, or a technical field.
