Senior Technical Consultant - Power & New Energy

Houston, TX or Long Beach / Monrovia, CA (Hybrid)

Purpose of the Role

Worley Consulting is seeking a motivated and technically capable Senior Technical Consultant / Engineer to support the delivery of complex power and energy transition projects across North America.

This role focuses on providing analytical, technical, and design support across transmission, distribution, and substation infrastructure, contributing to feasibility studies, interconnection strategies, and engineering design development.

The position offers the opportunity to work across conventional power systems and emerging energy technologies-supporting utilities and developers in delivering reliable, resilient, and sustainable energy solutions.

Based at Worley's Houston, Texas, Long Beach or Monrovia California office and follows a 3-day hybrid schedule. Remote work is not available.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute economic analyses for transmission, distribution, and substation infrastructure to support project feasibility and investment decisions.
  • Perform modeling and analysis using industry-standard software (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, or equivalent tools).
  • Develop transmission and distribution layouts, including plan and profile drawings.
  • Support interconnection studies and grid integration strategies for power and renewable energy projects.
  • Review and validate 30% design packages to ensure technical completeness and alignment with electrical standards.
  • Analyze large-scale power systems for utilities, independent system operators (ISOs), and regional transmission organizations (RTOs).
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables for executive and stakeholder review.
  • Present technical findings to clients, senior stakeholders, and public forums as required.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, project management, and construction.
  • Contribute to proposals, cost estimates, and early-stage project development activities.
  • Support business development efforts through client engagement and delivery excellence.
  • Participate in industry conferences, technical publications, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.


Qualifications / Skill Set
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • Typically 5+ years of experience supporting power, utility, or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of power systems, including transmission, distribution, and substation design.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems (solar PV, onshore/offshore wind, battery energy storage) and emerging technologies such as microgrids.
  • Familiarity with interconnection requirements, grid codes, and regulatory/compliance frameworks.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, or similar modeling tools.
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Experience in feasibility studies, system modeling, economic analysis, or infrastructure design.
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality, client-ready technical reports, presentations, and deliverables.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical, innovative solutions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred or the ability to obtain registration in the U.S.
  • Understanding of applicable industry standards, regulations, and best practices within the power and utilities sector.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% to support project delivery and client engagement.
