Job Description:The
Senior Technical Accountant reports to the Director of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting and is responsible for supporting accounting and financial reporting for complex and non-routine transactions. This role leads technical accounting research, develops well-supported accounting positions, and ensures consistent application of U.S. GAAP across the organization.
This position partners cross-functionally to assess accounting implications, influence business decisions, and maintain robust accounting policies and internal controls in a fast-paced public company environment.
Key Responsibilities:Technical Accounting & Research- Research, interpret, and apply U.S. GAAP to complex and non-routine transactions.
- Develop, document, and defend accounting conclusions with clear technical support.
Accounting for Complex Transactions- Execute and support accounting for areas such as:
- Purchase accounting
- Intangible assets and amortization
- Investments
- Hedging activities
- Goodwill and other technical accounting matters
- Prepare analyses, documentation, and journal entries, as applicable.
Policy Development & Standardization- Develop, update, and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistent application of GAAP.
- Promote standardization and scalability across accounting processes.
New Standards & Compliance- Monitor emerging accounting standards and regulatory developments.
- Lead impact assessments and coordinate implementation efforts with stakeholders.
Technical Documentation- Draft clear, comprehensive technical accounting memoranda and supporting documentation for audit and internal purposes.
- Ensure documentation meets internal and external audit requirements.
Cross-Functional Partnership- Collaborate with FP&A, Legal, Tax, Manufacturing Operations, and auditors to proactively identify and resolve accounting issues.
- Provide guidance on accounting implications of business initiatives and transactions.
Close & Reporting Support- Support the monthly close process through preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness within the ERP system.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement- Support compliance with internal controls and accounting policies (SOX environment).
- Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency, and process improvement.
Stakeholder Communication- Communicate complex accounting matters clearly to finance and non-finance stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Maintain strong working relationships with auditors and business partners.
Additional Support- Provide cross-functional and team support as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
- Active CPA certification.
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or technical accounting.
- Big 4 public accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and document complex accounting issues.
- Experience working in a public company environment or supporting SEC reporting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with complex transactions (e.g., M&A, revenue recognition, derivatives).
- Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Experience in a SOX-compliant environment.
- Exposure to manufacturing or multi-entity organizations.

Pay Range:$88,900.00 - $116,655.00
Pay Range Explained:This role in Portland, Oregon pays between $88,900.00 and $116,655.00 per year, depending on your experience, skills, and background. Pay may vary in other locations. We offer a full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), and paid time off.
