Senior Tax Specialist

Zurich Canada is currently hiring a Senior Tax Specialist who can demonstrate strong accounting, technical, and analytical skills. You are able to understand complex instructions and guidance, and you communicate clearly in both verbal and written form. Strong organizational skills are essential to prioritize effectively and meet tight deadlines.
Reporting to the Vice President, Canada Taxation, you will manage tax filings, ensure compliance, conduct analyses, and support audits. You will add value to our tax team by working collaboratively and applying your specialized knowledge and experience in a complex, fast-paced environment.

What you will do
- Prepare federal GST/HST returns and provincial sales tax returns
- Prepare premium/fire tax returns
- Assist with preparation of federal and provincial corporate income tax returns
- Prepare quarterly income tax provision calculations
- Assist with other tax compliance tasks including tax instalments and account reconciliations
- Provide support for internal and external audits, including responses to tax issues, assessments, and inquiries
Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table
Required:
• Bachelors Degree 4 or more years of experience in the Corporate Tax area or accounting.
OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Corporate Tax area or accounting.
OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Corproate Tax area or accounting.
AND
• Experience in income tax
• Statutory accounting knowledge.
Preferred:
• Knowledge of federal and provincial sale tax legislations and regulations
• Knowledge of the federal and provincial income tax legislation and regulations
• Working knowledge of the insurance industry and the unique rules associated with accounting and tax reporting
• Undergraduate degree in a financial discipline or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• CPA Certification or enrolled in the program
• Tax internship and/or professional experience in public or corporate accounting
• Strong spreadsheet skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. We determine compensation based on objective criteria such as skills, experience, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $68,000 to $108,000. This range reflects the expected pay for the role across Canada and may vary depending on factors like office location, specific responsibilities, and individual qualifications. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable compensation range, but starting salaries may exceed this range based on a candidate's skills and experience.
