The Role

Solink is looking for a Senior Tax & Compliance Specialist to execute and evolve our Canadian and U.S. tax compliance function. You'll take ownership of day-to-day direct and indirect tax compliance, working within the governance framework and controls set by the Assistant Controller, while actively shaping how that framework evolves as the business grows.

You'll serve as the company's technical tax expert across Canadian and U.S. direct tax, indirect tax, sales and use tax, and regulatory compliance, partnering closely with Finance, Legal, Sales, Operations, Procurement, and external advisors. You'll proactively identify tax risks, interpret evolving legislation, and build repeatable processes that minimize risk while supporting business growth.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong North American tax experience who enjoys solving complex problems, improving processes, and building sustainable compliance frameworks in a fast-growing technology company.

What You'll Do

Tax Compliance & Governance
  • Execute the Canadian and U.S. tax compliance program, maintaining filing schedules and compliance documentation, and flagging gaps or risks to the Assistant Controller early.
  • Develop and maintain a scalable tax governance framework, ensuring compliance obligations are met accurately and on time.
  • Maintain tax calendars, filing schedules, and compliance documentation across all jurisdictions.
  • Monitor changes in Canadian and U.S. tax legislation and proactively assess impacts to the business.
  • Research, document, and communicate technical tax positions, providing practical recommendations to Finance leadership.
  • Develop internal tax policies and standard operating procedures that improve consistency, scalability, and audit readiness.

Direct Tax
  • Prepare Canadian and U.S. corporate income tax compliance, including tax returns, estimated payments, extensions, and supporting schedules.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual IFRS tax provisions, including current and deferred tax calculations.
  • Support transfer pricing compliance, intercompany transactions, and related documentation.
  • Partner with external tax advisors on tax planning initiatives and complex tax matters.
  • Analyze the tax implications of acquisitions, restructurings, legal entity changes, and international expansion.

Indirect Tax
  • Manage Canadian indirect tax compliance, including GST/HST, PST, QST, and other provincial tax requirements.
  • Manage U.S. sales and use tax compliance across all applicable jurisdictions.
  • Monitor economic and physical nexus requirements and ensure timely registrations and filings.
  • Manage exemption certificates, resale certificates, and supporting tax documentation.
  • Ensure accurate tax treatment for customer invoices, subscriptions, hardware sales, professional services, procurement activities, inventory movements, freight, and cross-border transactions.
  • Partner with Billing, Sales, Procurement, and Operations to ensure tax is applied correctly as products, pricing, and contracts evolve.

Sales & Use Tax
  • Execute multi-state U.S. sales and use tax compliance and reporting.
  • Ensure accurate accrual and remittance of use tax on purchases where applicable.
  • Respond to routine sales tax notices and registration updates, escalating anything unusual to the Assistant Controller.
  • Continuously evaluate changing nexus rules and ensure compliance with evolving U.S. tax legislation.
  • Recommend improvements to sales tax automation and system configuration based on what you're seeing day-to-day.

Tax Audits & Regulatory Compliance
  • Support the Accounting Manager by serving as the primary contact for CRA, IRS, and U.S. state tax authorities during audits, reviews, and inquiries.
  • Coordinate responses to tax notices and regulatory requests.
  • Build sustainable documentation and internal controls that support successful tax audits.
  • Identify compliance risks early and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Ensure tax processes remain compliant with internal controls and external regulatory requirements.

Process Improvement & Automation
  • Identify opportunities to automate tax calculations, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance activities.
  • Partner with Finance Systems to improve tax configurations within NetSuite, Salesforce, Avalara, or similar platforms.
  • Reduce manual processes while improving the accuracy and scalability of tax operations.
  • Evaluate AI-enabled solutions that improve tax compliance, reporting, and risk management.

Business Partnership
  • Act as a first point of contact for Sales, Procurement, and Operations on routine tax questions.
  • Review customer and vendor contracts to ensure appropriate tax treatment.
  • Support new market expansion by evaluating tax registration and compliance requirements.
  • Translate complex tax regulations into practical guidance for business stakeholders.
