OpportunityPeopleTec is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location.
The Advanced Fires Project Office (AFPO) and Project Director Manager Scalable Hypersonics (PdM SHY) develop, integrate, and transition advanced weapon systems to meet critical Army operational needs. We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to serve as a technical leader guiding requirements, architecture, integration, risk management, and test activities across our rapidly expanding hypersonic portfolio.
The Senior Systems Engineer will manage a highly complex technical baseline, lead technical reviews, maintain strict configuration management, and advise government leadership on engineering risks and opportunities. Crucially, this role will deconflict overlapping technical efforts and resource demands across hypersonic programs (including MROM, ASHS, AHSS, Mach XL, Sirena, and PrsM Inc 4) to ensure responsible stewardship of USG resources.
Duties:
- Lead the development, validation, and maintenance of system requirements, system architecture, and rigorous traceability across the hypersonic portfolio.
- Serve as the primary Risk Manager, establishing risk mitigation strategies and advising program leadership on system engineering risks, opportunities, and trade-offs.
- Manage and maintain complex technical baselines and strict configuration management processes across multiple concurrent weapon development efforts.
- Plan and orchestrate key technical milestones, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), and formal technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) to objectively assess system maturity and vendor readiness.
- Deconflict overlapping technical efforts, resource demands, and schedules among the MROM, ASHS, AHSS, Mach XL, Sirena, and PrsM Inc 4 programs.
- Guide system integration efforts and oversee technical performance analyses for prototype and fielded systems.
- Oversee verification and validation (V&V) planning and execution in coordination with external test facilities and ranges.
- Support the development of acquisition strategies, technical readiness assessments, and transition plans.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level systems engineers.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Experience:
- 15+ years of progressive engineering experience, with significant DoD systems engineering leadership on complex defense programs.
- Direct experience in system baseline management, technical risk management, configuration management, and requirements traceability.
- Demonstrated experience leading system design, integration, and test reviews (TIMs, PDR, CDR, TRR) for complex missile or advanced weapon systems.
- Proficiency in systems engineering methodologies, digital engineering tools, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.
- Proven capability to brief senior Army and DoD leadership effectively.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills to coordinate across multi-disciplinary engineering teams and multi-program efforts.
- Travel: 20%
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Active U.S. DoD Secret Clearance required upon hire, with the ability to maintain clearance level during employment. (SIPR access required).
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Master’s degree preferred; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with hypersonic technologies, high-speed flight systems, directed energy, or advanced precision fires programs.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Deep familiarity with Army acquisition pathways, rapid prototyping, Middle Tier of Acquisition (MTA), and rapid fielding initiatives.
- Experience deconflicting resource constraints and technical baselines across joint/parallel vendor efforts.
- Self-starter requiring minimal supervision, with a proven track record of managing multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
