Senior Systems Engineer

Position Description:

CGI Federal is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to provide expert level systems engineering support across the full system lifecycle for a Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) program for the US Army. This role assesses complex systems, identifies problems, designs technical solutions, develops system upgrades, and collaborates across engineering, program management, vendors, and IT teams to ensure system performance, quality, and mission readiness. The Senior Systems Engineer leads the design, integration, testing, and optimization of systems while also driving continuous improvements and cost effective engineering strategies. This position is ideal for a highly specialized senior engineer with deep experience supporting Defense programs.

This position is located in Huntsville, AL.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Systems Assessment & Problem Resolution
. Assess system performance, identify issues, and develop corrective technical solutions
. Diagnose system deficiencies and lead troubleshooting efforts to restore optimal functionality
. Evaluate system architecture and propose modifications or modernization improvements
Systems Design, Upgrade & Maintenance
. Design new systems, system enhancements, or system architectures based on program needs
. Plan and oversee system upgrades, ensuring compatibility and minimal disruption
. Maintain and optimize systems to ensure long term reliability and performance
Collaboration & Stakeholder Coordination
. Collaborate with clients, vendors, management, IT personnel, and engineering teams throughout system development
. Participate in technical reviews, requirements discussions, and system integration planning
. Communicate system needs, constraints, and recommendations to technical and non technical stakeholders
Quality Control & Standards Compliance
. Create control features to ensure systems meet quality, performance, and security standards
. Engage in system quality control procedures, ensuring compliance with program and Defense standards
. Review system designs and documentation to confirm adherence to engineering guidelines
Cost Analysis & Optimization
. Perform cost benefit analyses for proposed system changes, upgrades, or new system designs
. Recommend cost efficient engineering strategies to reduce lifecycle cost without compromising capability
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
. Brainstorm and propose future system improvements and emerging technology integrations
. Support modernization planning, technology assessments, and capability insertion activities
. Ensure system designs support scalability, maintainability, and long term program growth

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Education
. MA/MS degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
. Substitution options:
- One academic year in a related accredited post secondary program may substitute for one year of experience
- BA/BS + 3 additional years of experience may substitute for the graduate degree requirement
- No degree: an additional 6 years of experience may substitute for the degree requirement
Experience
. 10+ years of systems engineering experience supporting Defense programs
. Experience assessing systems, designing solutions, performing upgrades, and conducting engineering analysis
. Experience coordinating with cross functional technical teams and stakeholders
Technical Skills
. Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, system integration, and requirements analysis
. Experience with system architecture development and problem resolution
. Familiarity with quality standards, system verification, and configuration control
. Ability to evaluate system performance, analyze technical trade offs, and recommend improvements
Work Style & Competencies
. Excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities
. Strong communication skills for collaboration with clients, vendors, and technical teams
. Ability to manage multiple engineering activities in a fast paced environment
. High attention to detail with ability to produce accurate system documentation
Desired qualifications/non essential skills required:
Advanced Systems Engineering Expertise
. Experience supporting C5ISR systems, tactical networks, or command and control systems
. Familiarity with model based systems engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering tools
Tools & Systems Knowledge
. Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama), modeling tools, or architecture frameworks
. Knowledge of system safety, reliability engineering, or lifecycle sustainment
Certifications
. INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP/CSEP/ESEP)
. DAWIA Systems Engineering certification
. Security+, Network+, or other DoD 8570 certifications
Additional Skills
. Experience developing system documentation, design artifacts, and engineering reports
. Ability to support technical reviews, system audits, or readiness assessments
. Strong capability for integrating new technologies or system enhancements

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $79,600.00 $176,300.00.
